The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. The 2018-19 season marks the first time that the ECC is naming a Defensive Player of the Week, and Titus becomes the first-ever recipient from Daemen. Titus, a 6-foot freshman forward, played a starring role in Daemen's only game last week, a 74-67 victory over Mercyhurst University on Nov. 15. The former Our Lady of Mercy High School star hauled in 12 defensive rebounds and registered three blocks and two steals in 22 minutes off the bench. Her defensive efforts helped the Wildcats overcome a 10-point second-half deficit to earn the victory in their first home contest of the 2018-19 season. Titus ended the game with her first career double-double, totaling 14 points and 15 rebounds. She connected on 7-of-10 shots from the field. Through the first three games of her career, Titus is shooting 53.3 percent from the field (8-for-15), and averaging 6.0 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game. In addition to Titus' accolade, redshirt sophomore guard Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y.) was named to the ECC weekly honor roll. Filbert notched a career-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, in the win over Mercyhurst. Daemen (2-1, 0-0 ECC) rides a two-game winning streak into their trip to St. Petersburg, Fla. this week for the Eckerd College Thanksgiving Classic. The Wildcats take on tournament host Eckerd at 3 p.m. Friday (Nov. 23), as well as Florida Southern College at 1 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 24).
