The Wildcats, who were coming off a 6-3 victory over Fairmont State University last Saturday, finish the season at 10-14 overall. Jefferson, an affiliate of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, improved to 11-7 with today's win. Daemen jumped out to a 1-0 lead when senior Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and freshman Giovanna Paschoalin (Sao Caetano Do Sul, Brazil) scored an 8-3 victory in the second doubles position over JU's Lindsey McDonough (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and Millie Coombes (Isle of Wright, U.K.). But, the Rams came right back with wins in the first and third doubles positions to take a 2-1 lead. Usha Baublitz (New Freedom, Pa.) and Katelyn High (Lancaster, Pa.) were 8-5 winners in the third position over DC's Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and MacKenzie Robbins (Rome, N.Y.), and Marta Yevstakhevych (Lviv, Ukraine) and Lauren Candia (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) bested DC's top pair of Lorissa Yuen (Portland, Ore.) and Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) 8-6. Yuen opened singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Yevstakhevych in the top position in the lineup. The win evened Yuen's singles record at 14-14 this season, tying her for second all-time in singles wins for a season with former Wildcat Hayle Scanlan who notched a career-best 14 wins during the 2016-17 season. Jefferson went back on top when Coombes posted a straight sets victory (6-0, 7-6) in the fourth position over Ringler. The Wildcts were able to pull even one more time when Stasiuk recorded her team-record 18th win of the season, a straight sets decision (6-4, 6-1) in the third position over Baublitz. In so doing, Stasiuk finished the season at 18-10 to also become Daemen's single-season record holder for singles winning percentage (.643). She's the first Daemen player to post a season winning percentage over 60 percent. But, Jefferson swept the remaining three singles matches to secure the overall victory. Candia bested Paschoalin (6-3, 6-1) in the second position; Erin Nguyen (Philadelphia, Pa.) didn't drop a game while winning her No. 6 singles match (6-0, 6-0) over Daemen's Alliya Foster (Bronx, N.Y.); and McDonough outlasted Robins in a three-set thriller (6-3, 2-6, 1-0), winning a third set tie-break 11-9 in the process. Today's match marked the final competition in the career of Ringler, the team's lone senior. She will leave ranked second all-time at Daemen in combined singles/doubles wins (84), singles wins (43), singles matches (98), doubles wins (41) and doubles matches (100). For breaking news and continuing coverage of the Daemen women's tennis team, follow @DaemenAthletics and @DaemenTennis on Twitter.Print Friendly Version
