Graduating Student-Athlete Profile: Taylor Heinold

Between the dates of May 14-18, daemenwildcats.com is profiling several student-athletes who have completed their athletic eligibility and/or are walking the stage at Daemen's commencement ceremony this weekend.

Taylor Heinold has been a member of the women's basketball team for the past five seasons. In that time, she appeared in 80 games and made 37 starts, and this past season she helped the team qualify for the East Coast Conference Tournament for the first time. Heinold's lasting legacy may be her perseverance, having twice overcome season-ending injuries only to return to the team the following season. She recently caught up with daemenwildcats.com for a reflection of her time at Daemen.

D: What is the degree that you are graduating with?

TH: Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a minor a Computer Science.

D: What is your favorite memory or memories from your student-athlete experience?

TH: My favorite experience was getting the opportunity to play with my sister. She is my best friend and I have loved every moment being able to share this amazing experience with her.

D: What were your impressions of Daemen when you arrived compared to now?

TH: I think the program has made strides to improve the experience for athletes and continue to be competitive in the division.

D: What is the thing about Daemen that you will miss the most?

TH: The thing I'll miss most is the people that I've formed extremely close relationships with, people who have supported me, had a positive impact on me, taught me, mentored me, and given me the opportunity to come to Daemen and play basketball. They have helped shape me into the person I am today. I will never forget them and the time I've been able to spend with them at Daemen.

D: What do you consider to be your most meaningful accomplishment during your time at Daemen?

TH: The most meaningful accomplishment is my graduation with two degrees and a minor, and feeling completely prepared for the road ahead.

D: Who has been the most influential person during your college years, and can you describe the influence this person has had on you?

TH: The most influential people in my life have been my parents. They have done nothing but encourage me, support me, and love me. My mom inspired me to be a strong, independent woman who is confident in my capabilities and to always strive for greatness. My dad inspired my love for basketball, my passion and determination, and my toughness. I never would've had the opportunities I've experienced if not for them.

D: What do your future plans hold?

TH: My future plans are to pursue a career in data analytics.

D: What words of advice do you have for your underclassmen teammates and new recruits joining the program?

TH: Stay positive and tough against all obstacles. There will be things and people who stand in your way and try to break you down in life. Remain determined and never take your eyes off your goals. You are capable of everything you are willing to work for.
