Today's results push Daemen's season record to 2-5. The win over Notre Dame snapped a four-match slide, and it moved Daemen to a full 10 games over .500 in the all-time series with the Falcons (17-7). Both matches today came against fellow former members of the now-defunct American Mideast Conference. The Wildcats were meeting both the Falcons and Pioneers for the first time since 2010. Sophomore Jenn Heritz (Granger, Ind.) and freshman Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) paced a balanced Daemen offense in the win over NDC, contributing 12 kills apiece. The duo also combined for a .256 hitting percentage. Junior Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y.) and sophomore Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 kills apiece. As a team, the Wildcats put down a season-high 57 kills. Freshman setter Isa McCaffrey (North Royalton, Ohio) enjoyed the finest match of her young career to date, registering her first double-double with season-bests of 52 assists and 12 digs. The Wildcats also got strong defensive efforts from sophomores Ali Greenwood (North Aurora, Ill.) and Georgia Wicker who tallied 20 and 13 digs, respectively. Mary Kate McHugh paced the Falcons with a match-high 18 kills, while Alexandra Kaeberlein notched a match-best 26 digs. The loss sent NDC to 2-4 on the season. In their tournament finale, the Wildcats ran into a Malone squad that has posted 20-win season 13 times in the 20-year tenure of head coach Tanya Hockman. The Pioneers appear poised to add to that total with 11 returning players from their 2017 team which went 18-13. Daemen managed just 23 kills and hit .037 against the Pioneers. Ballou (seven kills), Heritz (six kills) and junior Cristina Apostol (Bucharest, Romania) combined for 18 kills. McCaffrey notched 19 assists and Greenwood totaled 12 digs. Mallory Adams, a second team All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference selection last season, paced a balanced Malone attack with 10 kills and a .320 hitting percentage on 25 attempts. Faith Lau added nine kills, while Rachel Santos and Veronica Gehrig chipped in with seven apiece. Cathryn Miller posted a match-high 28 assists, and Maggie Hamrock was tough defensively with a match-high 14 digs. The win evened Malone's season record at 4-4. Daemen returns to tournament action for the third consecutive weekend when partaking in the Post Eagles Invitational in Waterbury, Conn. on September 8-9. Four regional foes await on the docket as the Wildcats do battle with Le Moyne College, Bentley University, Caldwell University and tournament host Post University.
