Peters (12 kills, .240 hitting percentage) and Ballou (11 kills, 12 digs), the last two successive ECC Players of the Week, combined for 23 kills to lead a balanced offensive attack for the Wildcats who improved to 8-7 overall and 2-0 in ECC play this season. NYIT, which was picked in a tie for second place in the ECC preseason poll after going 25-9 last season, dropped to 8-7 overall and 0-2 in league play. Redshirt junior right side hitter Courtney Bernard (Lancaster, Ohio) also turned in a fantastic effort for Daemen, powering down a season-best 10 kills on 23 attempts (.261 hitting percentage). Bernard, who missed all of the 2017 season with a career-threatening injury, has battled her way back into the lineup this season. The production tonight marked her first match with double figure kills since posting 10 against American International College in the 2016 NCAA Division II East Regional championship match. Cristina Apostol (Bucharest, Romania) chipped in with eight kills, while Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) and Allison Post (Windsor, Calif.) added six apiece. Post saw her most extensive action of the season thus far, attacking at a .211 clip and contributing a career-high nine digs. Freshman setter Isa McCaffrey (North Royalton, Ohio) stuffed the stat sheet tonight with 42 assists and seven digs. She also snuck a career-best six kills onto the stat sheet. McCaffrey, who has garnered ECC Setter of the Week honors in each of the last two weeks, has now recorded 30 or more assists in eight consecutive matches. Defensively, the Wildcats racked up a season-high 88 digs, led by the 21 of sophomore libero Ali Greenwood (North Aurora, Ill.). Georgia Wicker (Woodstock, Ill.) reached double figures with 13, as did Logan with 11. The Daemen defensive effort proved pivotal in thwarting NYIT's Tiffany Verni, the ECC Preseason Player of the Year who entered the match averaging a league-high 4.25 kills per set. Verni was limited to a season-low six kills on 36 attempts (.083 hitting percentage), marking just the second time this season she's been held to single digits. Veronica Nemcova (nine kills) and Carly Burns (eight kills) paced the NYIT offense, while Vanessa Velandia totaled a team-high 17 assists. Freshman libero Jamie Yonker recorded 17 digs, and Verni contributed a season-high 16 digs. Daemen has now won six of their last seven matches. Each of the six wins have come against regional opponents, upping the Wildcats' record to 49-26 in all regional matches since the start of the 2016 season. The victory also snapped a three-game slide in the all-time series with NYIT. Daemen is now 4-9 all-time against the perennial ECC powerhouse. The match was the first of three in as many days at Lumsden Gymnasium for the Wildcats as they welcome a trio of opponents who entered the weekend with a combined 107-37 record since the start of the 2017 season. Long Island University Post, which was also picked in a tie for second in this year's ECC preseason poll visits Saturday, while defending Northeast-10 Conference and East Region champion University of New Haven comes into town for midday match on Sunday.
