Student-Athletes Post 11th Consecutive Semester With 3.0 GPA 1/18/2019 3:50:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College student-athletes continued to shine in pursuit of their respective academic endeavors during the Fall 2018 semester. The college's student-athlete body, consisting of just under 200 individuals, posted a collective grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 during the semester, marking the 11th consecutive semester that they've achieved a collective GPA of 3.0 or better. Daemen, which sponsors 18 intercollegiate athletic programs, saw 113 student-athletes individually achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher. That represents 59 percent of Daemen's total student-athlete body. In addition, 74 student-athletes were eligible for the Dean's List which requires a GPA of 3.3 or higher, and 46 student-athletes went even higher, with a 3.50 GPA or better. Eight student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. At the conclusion of the semester, 120 student-athletes now hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Breaking down the numbers even further, 10 teams achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The highest achieving teams included men's tennis (3.61), women's triathlon (3.24) women's cross country (3.24), women's tennis (3.20) and women's volleyball (3.16). "We are pleased with the academic performance of our student-athletes during the fall semester," said Traci Murphy, director of athletics. "The fall semester is often the most difficult for our teams collectively as we're welcoming first-year students and transfers. So many student-athletes are learning how to balance a heavy course load with team commitments while possibly living on their own for the first time. The stats speak for themselves, indicating that we foster an environment that promotes academics as a priority. These are achievements the students and the entire campus community can be proud of, because at some level, we all play a role in the development of our student-athletes."
