AMHERST, N.Y. - Katie Titus (Penfield, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 21-27. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Titus, a 6-foot freshman forward, averaged 24.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals over two games last week. She shot 61 percent from the field (19-for-31) and 50 percent from three-point range (8-for-16). She led the Wildcats (10-8, 7-2 ECC) to a pair of conference victories, extending their winning streak to six straight games, the longest of the program's NCAA Division II era. The Wildcats dispatched of regionally-ranked Saint Thomas Aquinas College (62-54) last Friday night, handing the defending ECC champs their first conference loss of the season while also snapping their seven-game winning streak. The Wildcats followed up with a 79-47 rout of the University of the District of Columbia in a Sunday matinee.

Against STAC, Titus scored a career-high 24 points and also contributed seven rebounds and two steals. She connected on 10-of-17 shots overall and made 4-of-9 from downtown. Less than 48 hours later, she netted 24 points again, and added four rebounds and a career-high four steals in the win over UDC. Titus shot 9-of-14 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range against the Firebirds.

The Our Lady of Mercy graduate has played a huge role during Daemen's six-game winning streak. In that span, she has shot 46 percent (16-for-35) from three-point range and is averaging 22 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

Titus is the only ECC player to be named Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week this year. She collects ECC Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, having previously done so for games played Jan. 7-13. She becomes the first player in team history to earn multiple ECC Player of the Week honors in the same season. Titus has also been a two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week selection (Nov. 12-18, Jan. 14-20), and a one-time ECC Rookie of the Week pick (Jan. 14-20).

Titus has appeared in all 18 games this season and has made 11 starts, including the last 10 games. She is averaging 10.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. She ranks among the team's leaders in scoring (second), rebounding (first), field goals (second), steals (second) and blocks (second). She has averaged a team-high 15.6 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds during Daemen's nine conference games, and currently ranks second among ECC freshmen in points per game.

Titus and the Wildcats will close out a three-game homestand later this week when longtime rival Roberts Wesleyan College visits Lumsden Gymnasium (Thursday, Jan. 31, 6 p.m. tip-off). The Wildcats will be going for the season sweep after defeating the Redhawks 72-70 in Rochester earlier this season.
