ERIE, Pa. - The Daemen College women's bowling team posted a 3-2 record during second-day action of the inaugural Grapevine Classic today. The two-day tournament was hosted by Penn-State Behrend and took place at Eastland Bowl. The tournament featured eight teams from the states of Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio.
The Wildcats also won three of five matches during the opening round yesterday and claimed third place overall among the eight schools. Daemen posted a total pinfall of 8,087 over the 10 matches to finish behind tournament champion Roberts Wesleyan College (8,537) and second-place Walsh University (8,296). Villa Maria College (7,979) and D'Youville College (7,647) rounded out the top five.
In five Baker total pinfall matches today, the Wildcats earned victories over Ursuline University (865-740), Walsh (882-876) and D'Youville (830-761), before losing its final two matches to Penn State Behrend (828-745) and Roberts Wesleyan (806-742).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshmen Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) and Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) ranked among the top-15 bowlers during the "traditional scoring" format on day one.
- Bartosz, a product of Orchard Park High School, ranked eighth out of 52 bowlers with an average of 180.0. She posted the highest score for the Daemen bowler (202) on day one during a win over Villa Maria, and also rolled a 196 in a win over Pitt-Bradford.
- Nowak, a graduate of West Seneca West High School, ranked 14th with a 163.4 average. She posted her best score (190) during the win over Villa Maria.
UP NEXT
Daemen stands at 6-4 on the young season and returns to action next weekend (Oct. 19-20) when it travels to Frederick, Md. to take part in the Mount Shootout hosted by Mount St. Mary's University.
