Women's Bowling Wins A Pair On Opening Day Of Mount Shootout

| By:

FREDERICK, Md. - Playing in their second tournament in as many weekends, the Daemen College women's bowling team opened play at the Mount Shootout today, winning two of their five traditional matches. The two-day tournament features 16 competing teams, and is being hosted by Mount St. Mary's University at Terrace Lanes.

After opening the day with back-to-back losses to Howard University (862-850) and St. Francis College-Brooklyn (854-803), the Wildcats got on the board in a big way by downing St. Francis University (Pa.) 863-782. The Red Flash are ranked No. 16 in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) top-25 poll.

Daemen's bid for consecutive wins over ranked opponents came up short as they fell 1,026-918 against No. 21 Mount St. Mary's. The Wildcats regrouped to defeat Coppin State University 951-853; their 951 pins marked a season-high.

The results today push Daemen's season record to 8-7.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Seven different players saw action for the Wildcats today, led by junior Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.) and freshmen Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) and Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) who appeared in all five matches.
