LOCKPORT, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's bowling team won three of four matches during second-day action of the Redhawks Fall Rally. The two-day tournament is being held at Brad Angelo Lanes and is being hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College.
The Wildcats went 6-3 over the two days and placed third out of nine teams. Nationally-ranked Medaille College took first place with a total pin fall over the two days of 8,767. The Mavericks entered the tournament ranked No. 12 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Division II-III preseason poll. Kutztown University, which is ranked seventh in the NTCA Division II-III preseason poll, placed second with a pin fall of 8,645. Daemen posted a two-day pin fall of 8,233 and took third place.
All five matches today were scored via the Baker format. The Wildcats opened the day with an 841-730 win over nationally-ranked Walsh University. The Cavaliers entered the tournament ranked No. 14 in the NTCA Division II-III preseason poll. Daemen followed up with an 814-729 win over D'Youville College, before suffering an 849-741 loss to Kutztown University. The Wildcats capped the day with an 876-782 win over rival Roberts Wesleyan. Daemen's overall season record is now 20-18.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) ranked first among all 60 bowlers during Saturday's "traditional scoring" format with an average score of 191.60. A product of Orchard Park High School, she rolled a 210 during a win over Roberts Wesleyan, which ranked as the highest score by a Daemen bowler during the opening day. She also rolled a 198 during a win over Hilbert College and a 195 in a win over Penn State Behrend. She has now posted the highest team average during the "traditional scoring" format in all four matches so far this season.
- Juniors Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.) and Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.) ranked among the top-15 bowlers during Saturday's "traditional scoring" format.
- Newberry rolled a 197 against Hilbert and ranked 14th with a 172.2 average. Pencek bowled a 202 in the win over Hilbert and ranked 15th with a 171.8 average.
UP NEXT
The Wildcats return to action next weekend (Nov. 15-17) when they travel to New Castle, Del. to take part in the Wildcat Invitational. The three-day tournament is being hosted by Wilmington University.
