NEW CASTLE, Del. - The Daemen College women's bowling team sits in seventh place following day-two action at the Wildcat Invitational, posting a total pin fall of 8,774 thus far. The three-day tournament is being hosted by Wilmington University at Bowlerama Lanes, and the 12-team field includes eight of Daemen's East Coast Conference brethren.
The Wildcats posted a 1-4 record across five traditional matches today. The results push the Wildcats' season record to an even 24-24.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Daemen suffered a 949-886 loss to Kutztown in the day's opening match. It's the second straight tournament that Daemen has fallen to the Bears, a team ranked No. 7 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Division II-III preseason national poll.
- The Wildcats bounced back with an 846-782 defeat of Mount Aloysius College. It marked Daemen's first meeting with the Mounties since the 2016-17 campaign.
- Daemen suffered three successive defeats to end the day, despite putting up some decent pin fall numbers. They fell to Felician University (1,036-923), No. 10 (DII-DIII) Chestnut Hill College (1,059-957) and Bloomfield College (938-865).
- Daemen ended the day on a high note, scoring an 884-859 win over Mercyhurst University. The win avenged 763-747 loss to the Lakers earlier this month at the Medaille Invitational, and it marked just the second all-time meeting between the two teams.
- Following the win over Medaille and loss to Caldwell, Daemen stands at 3-5 this season against teams ranked in the NTCA Division II-III national poll.
- Tournament host Wilmington posted a 4-1 record and tops the standings after day one with a total pin fall of 4,795. Chestnut Hill College, which also went 4-1, sits in second place (4,464).
- Four players rolled games of 200 or better for the Wildcats today. Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.) fired a 200 and Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) rolled a 201 in the loss to Felician. Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.) went for rounds of 203 (vs. Mt. Aloysius) and 205 (vs. Chestnut Hill). Freshman Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) had the single-game high for Daemen today, rolling a 227 vs. Chestnut Hill.
- Newberry paced the team with a 194.4 average, ranking 17th out of 95 competing bowlers. Bartosz was next at 180.6, ranking 27th.
