Wildcats In At #10 In Latest D2SIDA Regional Poll 12/2/2019 2:33:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's basketball team is ranked in the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region media poll for the sixth consecutive week dating back to last season, coming in at No. 10 this week. The Wildcats are down three spots after ascending to their highest ranking last week at No. 7. Daemen's movement in the poll comes after taking a split of two games this past weekend at the Cesar Odio Thanksgiving Classic in South Florida. Daemen suffered a 77-74 loss to Nova Southeastern University - one of the more successful NCAA Division II programs of late (154 wins, six NCAA tournament berths, four regional championships in the last seven seasons) and a team that started the year ranked tenth in the D2SIDA preseason national poll. The loss spoiled a tremendous individual effort from redshirt junior guard Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y.) who netted a career-high 38 points, becoming the first Daemen player with 35+ points in a game since Raeann Stilwell's 36-point outing on Jan. 6, 2014. The Wildcats bounced back to defeat tournament host Barry University 78-69 on Saturday afternoon. Junior forward Caroline White (Fairport, N.Y.) scored a career-high 22 points to lead the way. The Wildcats sit at 6-2 on the season, and have won 20 of their last 24 games dating back to last January. White has led a balanced attack thus far, and is playing arguably the best basketball of her career. She leads the team in scoring (15.1 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg). Filbert is producing 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Katie Titus (Penfield, N.Y.) and senior guard/forward Jordan Heinold (Hamburg, N.Y.) are also scoring in double figures, and graduate student Ashli Jeune (Westampton, N.J.), a transfer from Division I UNC-Wilmington, leads the team in assists (28) and steals (18). Daemen is back in action this weekend as they open East Coast Conference play by hosting rival Roberts Wesleyan College (Saturday, Dec. 7 - 2 p.m. tip-off). Daemen College features the only NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
