Women's Basketball Remains #10 In D2SIDA Regional Poll 12/9/2019 2:04:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's basketball team is ranked in the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region media poll for the seventh consecutive week dating back to last season, coming in at No. 10 this week. It marks the second straight week that Daemen has occupied the No. 10 ranking. Daemen (7-2, 1-0 ECC) garnered 13 points in the poll voting which is conducted by sports information professionals from around the region. The Wildcats are one of three East Coast Conference teams in the poll this week, joining No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas College and No. 9 Molloy College. St. Anselm College (No. 1) and Adelphi University (No. 2), both of the Northeast 10 Conference, occupy the top two poll positions for the second straight week. Daemen has won seven of their last eight games, and 21 of their last 25 dating back to last January. Most recently, the Wildcats opened conference play with a 70-47 win over Roberts Wesleyan College this past Saturday. It marked Daemen's third straight win in the series with their longtime rivals from Rochester, and it also extended the Wildcats' home-court winning streak to 11 straight games, now tied with Bentley University (No. 5 in this week's regional poll) for the longest active home winning streak in the region. The Wildcats have featured a balanced offense and a stingy defense so far this season. Four players are contributing at least 10 points per game, led by redshirt junior guard Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y.). The Batavia High School product scored a game-high 22 points in the win over RWC, and is averaging 15.6 points per game. She also leads the team in assists with 31. Junior forward Caroline White (Fairport, N.Y.) has reached double figures in eight of nine games, and is averaging 15.0 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game. The Wildcats are also getting good production from sophomore forward Katie Titus (Penfield, N.Y.) and senior wing Jordan Heinold (Hamburg, N.Y.) who are producing 13.4 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. Defensively, Daemen is allowing just 57.6 points per game this season, third-best among all ECC teams. The Wildcats have held six of their last eight opponents to less than 60 points. The 47 points surrendered to Roberts Wesleyan tied a season-low, and it marked the fourth time this season that Daemen has allowed less than 50 points in a game. Daemen returns to action with a pair of ECC road games this weekend. First, they'll visit Mercy College (5-3, 0-0 ECC) for a 5 p.m. tip-off Friday (Dec. 13). The road trip closes with a meeting of regionally-ranked teams as Daemen meets defending ECC regular season champion St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday (Dec. 15) afternoon.
