Upcoming Girls & Women In Sport Day Activities Announced 2/7/2019 2:01:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College Athletics Department will hold an essay/art contest in observation of National Girls and Women in Sport Day, head women's volleyball coach/senior woman administrator Stephanie Albano announced today. The Daemen Athletics Department is partnering with local schools to accept submissions from girls ages six to 15. Those wishing to participate are asked to share their story, through words or art, about how sports has impacted their lives. All submissions are due by Monday, February 25. Prizes will be awarded for the most inspiring, most creative, best essay (10 & under/10 & over) and best artwork (10 & under/10 & over). Winners will be announced at halftime of the women's basketball game vs. Mercy College on Friday, March 1. To participate in the essay/art contest, please download and submit a registration form via email to salbano@daemen.edu. The women's basketball game on March 1 will also serve as Girl Scout Day at Lumsden Gymnasium. Free admission will be offered for girl scout troops, and they'll be recognized at halftime. For more than three decades, National Girls and Women in Sport Day has empowered females to get moving, reap the benefits of physical activity and push past their limits in both sports and life. Daemen Athletics has made it a point to observe National Girls and Women in Sport Day over the last several years with events for student-athletes as well as community members. Additional events for the Spring 2019 semester will be announced at a later time.
