Eschner Named Head Strength & Conditioning Coach 8/26/2019 12:15:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - Katie Eschner, a former collegiate student-athlete and intern in the power five realm of collegiate athletics, has been named the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach/Academic and Wellness Center Manager at Daemen College. The hiring was announced by Jeff Sage, assistant athletics director for sports medicine and performance, who chaired a national search for the position. In this role, Eschner will serve as the primary strength and conditioning professional, providing essential services to student-athletes from each of Daemen's 17 intercollegiate athletic programs. She will also provide administrative oversight of the fitness facility and gymnasium at the Academic and Wellness Center. "We are excited to have Katie bring her Division I and private sector strength and conditioning experiences to our student-athletes," said Sage. "We will be looking for her to enhance our strength and conditioning programs by using innovation and evidence-based training paradigms to elevate the level of our student-athletes' sports performance." Eschner comes to Daemen following a stint as a personal trainer in the Greenville, South Carolina area, but she's no stranger to strength and conditioning work at the college level. Eschner held strength and conditioning internship positions at both Clemson University and Old Dominion University. At Clemson, a member of the powerful Atlantic Coast Conference, Eschner assisted strength coaches and implemented training programs for injured athletes during their rehabilitory process, working primarily with players from the men's and women's soccer, track and field, cross country, women's volleyball and rowing, and baseball teams. Eschner also brings a familiarity with Western New York, NCAA Division II athletics and the East Coast Conference. Hailing from nearby Eden, N.Y., Eschner was a first-team All-State volleyball player at Eden High School before playing collegiately at Roberts Wesleyan College. Eschner ultimately transferred to Slippery Rock University where she earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science, graduating in May of 2015. In addition to her undergraduate degree, Eschner is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and holds competencies in movement integration, movement reeducation and the essentials of elite performance. Daemen College features the only NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
