AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's volleyball team needed just 59 minutes to dispatch of visiting Salem University today in the opening match of the Daemen Volleyball Classic presented by Millennium Buffalo. The two-day tournament features five NCAA Division II teams and nine total matches, all of which are being played at Lumsden Gymnasium.
The Wildcats shook off a shaky start and raced to a 3-0 win (25-15, 25-10, 25-10) in their first-ever meeting with the Tigers, and NCAA Division II independent. Daemen has now won three straight matches to sit at 5-3 on the season. Salem dropped to 0-12.Â
HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior right-side hitter Jenn Heritz (Granger, Ind.) led a balanced Daemen offense with a match-high six kills.Â
- The Wildcats also got five kills apiece from Courtney Bernard (Lancaster, Ohio), Lexi Prokopius (Independence, Ohio) and Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y.).
- Isa McCaffrey (North Royalton, Ohio) notched a match-high 13 assists, extending her personal streak of matches with 10 or more assists to 40 consecutive.Â
- Prokopius and Ali Greenwood (North Aurora, Ill.) chipped in with six digs to pace the Daemen defense.Â
- Daemen attacked a .333 clip, and forced Salem into a negative hitting percetage (-.113); it marked the second match this season that Daemen has hit .300 or better (.351 vs. Ursuline on Sept. 6).Â

"It was nice to see us get contributions from everybody that went into the match. We were able to play some different lineup combinations, but we kept our level where it needed to be throughout the match."

The tournament continues all day at Lumsden Gymnasium. The Wildcats play next at 6 p.m. when they take on regional foe Wilmington University (Del.).
