AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to five straight matches with a 3-0 defeat (25-20, 25-17, 25-21) of visiting Glenville State University today at Lumsden Gymnasium. The match was played as part of the ongoing Daemen Volleyball Classic presented by Millennium Buffalo.
The Wildcats move to 7-3 on the season with their victory. Glenville State, a member of the Mountain East Conference, dropped to 1-10.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Daemen started slowly, and didn't take their first lead of the opening set until it was 12-11. A 6-0 run helped them seize control at 19-13.
- The Wildcats raced out to a 12-5 lead in the second set. They led by as many as 10 points (18-8) in the set.
- The third set was more back-and-forth, and Glenville State built a 16-13 lead. Another 6-0 spurt helped turn the tide in favor of the hosts.
- Jenn Heritz (Granger, Ind.) put down a match-high 11 kills to lead a balanced Daemen offense that featured seven players with at least four kills. Heritz has now posted 10 or more kills in five matches this season, and her production today came with a .667 hitting percentage.
- Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y.) tossed in a season-high seven kills and four blocks.
- Lexi Prokopius (Independence, Ohio), Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) and Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y.) all chipped in five kills
- Sophomore setter Isa McCaffrey (North Royalton, Ohio) had a match-high 26 assists. Now with 1,290 assists in her career, she moves past Chelsea Turcer for 10th in team history.
- Hannah McKee (East Highland, Calif.), who made her season debut yesterday, added 10 assists for the Wildcats.
- Skylar Mace (11 kills) and Seanna Stump (10 kills) paced Glenville State.
GAME NOTES
- The win was Daemen's fifith in six contests at Lumsden Gymnasium this season. The Wildcats have won 11 of their last 12 home matches, and are 15-4 at Lumsden Gymnasium since the start of the 2018 season.
- The Wildcats improved to 2-1 this season against Mountain East Conference opponents.
