Ballou Named ECC Defensive Player of the Week

| By:
AMHERST, N.Y. - Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for games played Sept. 16-22. It marks the third weekly award of Ballou's career, and her first Defensive Player of the Week selection. The announcement of ECC weekly awards was made this afternoon via the league's weekly sport report

Ballou, a senior middle block/right-side hitter, appeared in three of Daemen's four matches this past weekend at the Daemen Volleyball Classic presented by Millennium Buffalo. She helped the Wildcats complete a sweep of their tournament matches by averaging a team-best 1.11 blocks per set. The Wildcats were particularly dominant at the net in Saturday victories over Glenville State College and Lock Haven University when they combined for 15 total blocks. Ballou accounted for six block assists and two solo blocks in those matches. She currently leads the ECC this season, averaging 0.88 blocks per set.

Ballou also contributed 2.67 kills per set on a .351 hitting pecentage at the tournament, and was named to the all-tournament team alongside teammate Jenn Heritz (Granger, Ind.). Heritz was named to the ECC Weekly Honor Roll as well today.

Daemen's tournament sweep, which also included 3-0 wins Friday over Salem University and Wilmington University, extended their overall winning streak to six straight matches. The Wildcats have dropped only one set during the streak, and sit at 8-3 overall this season.

Ballou had earned selections as the ECC Rookie of the Week (Oct. 3-9, 2016) and ECC Player of the Week (Sept. 10-16, 2018) earlier in her career. She'll lead the Wildcats into their ECC opener this coming weekend (Sunday, Sept. 29) at Molloy College in a rematch of the 2018 ECC tournament finals.
