Women's Basketball Ranked 9th In Latest D2SIDA Regional Poll

1/20/2020 8:00:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's basketball team is ranked ninth in the latest Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region media poll which was released earlier today. It marks Daemen's 11th consecutive appearance in the regional poll, a span that dates back to last season. The poll is conducted by sports information professionals from around the East Region which includes teams affiliated with the East Coast Conference, Northeast-10 Conference and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

With a 13-3 overall record, the Wildcats are off to the best start of the program's NCAA Division II era. Daemen last started 13-3 during the 2010-11 season when the program was entrenched as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Wildcats also sit at 5-1 in East Coast Conference play, tied for second place in the league standings.

The Wildcats extended their winning streak to five-straight games with a 64-35 throttling of the University of the District of Columbia on Sunday, their only game within the last week. Sophomore forward Katie Titus (Penfield, N.Y.) led the way by posting her third-straight double-double. She matched her career-high with 27 points on 11-of-20 shooting, and added 10 rebounds.

Daemen entered the weekend ranked 29th among all Division II schools in scoring defense (56.7 papg). The Wildcats have held 12 of their 16 opponents to less than 65 points, and are a perfect 12-0 when doing so.

Despite suffering their first two losses of the season, Adelphi University remained atop the poll this week, albeit now in a tie with Bentley University which had spent the last several weeks at No. 2. That represented the only movement among the top five teams this week as University of the Sciences (No. 3), St. Thomas Aquinas College (No. 4) and St. Anselm College (No. 5) remained in the same positions.

Daemen returns to Lumsden Gymnasium this week where they'll host Molloy College (13-5, 5-1 ECC) - the No. 10-ranked team in this week's poll - in a key ECC matchup on Friday night.
