ORLANDO, Fla. - The Daemen College women's bowling team continued to compete during their first-ever trip to Florida, posting a 1-4 record on day two of the Wildcat Classic. The three-day tournament is being hosted by Bethune-Cookman University.

Playing under traditional total pinfall rules today, Daemen picked up a 910-880 win over Western New York rival Medaille College, while also dropping matches to the likes of Florida A&M University (936-895), Maryville University (1,010-890), the University of Alabama-Birmingham (906-829) and Sacred Heart University (969-743). Of their losses today, three came against teams that are presently ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll: No. 15 Maryville, No. 19 Sacred Heart and No. 22 UAB.

Today's results bring Daemen's tournament record to 3-6. The Wildcats split four matches yesterday under Baker total pinfall rules. The Wildcats have now faced five nationally-ranked teams at the tournament, including yesterday's opponents No. 16 Tulane University and No. 8 (and defending national champion) Stephen F. Austin University.

Daemen and Medaille, whose WNY campuses are separated by less than seven miles, met more than 1,000 miles from home today. It marked the fifth meeting of the season between the Wildcats and Mavericks. Medaille scored wins in the first three, but Daemen has come back to grab the last two. Daemen had defeated Medaille 881-780 back on Nov. 15 as part of the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Wilmington University.

Four Daemen players rolled games of 200+ today, led by sophomore Christina Aldridge (Webster, N.Y.) who fired a 214 in the day's opening match against Florida A&M. Freshman Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) rolled a 212 vs. UAB, junior Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.) posted a 211 against Maryville and Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded a 200 in the win over Medaille.

Hasiotis saw action in four of the five matches today and led the team with a 183.75 average. Newberry posted a 180.67 average while appearing in three matches, and Nowak accounted for a 170.67 average in four matches.

Aldridge and freshman Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) were the lone players to appear in all five matches today, rolling averages of 165.8 and 166.4, respectively.

The results today push Daemen's season record to 35-32. They have tied the program record for wins in a season which was established in 2017-18 when the Wildcats finished 35-17. The team's 2019-20 roster includes six players - Hasiotis, Newberry, Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.), Alex Syrotynski (East Greenbush, N.Y.), Megan Kidder (Akron, N.Y.) and Katie Good (Hamburg, N.Y.) - who were also members of the 2017-18 team.

Tournament play will resume early Sunday morning with Daemen facing St. Francis College-Brooklyn in a traditional total pinfall match. Teams will then be seeded and conclude the tournament with two best-of-seven Baker format matches.
