Daemen Athletics To Celebrate 2019-20 Season With Week Of Honors

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College Athletic Department is set to recognize the achievements of its teams and student-athletes during a week-long virtual celebration. The Wildcat Week of Honors kicks off on Monday, May 4 and runs through Friday, May 8 with team and departmental awards to be announced via social media and on daemenwildcats.com.

As has become tradition, each Daemen team is given the opportunity to present up to three awards - Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player and Wildcat Award - to individual athletes for their contributions during the 2019-20 season. The Wildcat Award criteria is entirely at the discretion of each program, and generally is awarded to a player whose unsung contributions were paramount to the team's success.

Among the major departmental awards are the Male and Female Athletes and Newcomers of the Year, as well as the C.L.A.W. Award - accolades that are voted on by coaches and administrators. The C.L.A.W. Award is presented to the senior student-athlete who best exemplifies the traits of character, leadership, academic achievement and work ethic. Also to be doled out are the Male and Female Iron Wildcat Awards and P.R.I.D.E. Award, both given by the Office of Sports Medicine and Performance. The Iron Wildcats are those who have demonstrated great dedication to bettering themselves and their team in strength and conditioning sessions. The P.R.I.D.E. Award is bestowed upon the student-athlete who best exemplified perseverance, resilience, integrity, determination and expectations of excellence during an injury rehabilitation process.

"As we all progress through these unprecedented times, the Wildcat Week of Honors presents a great opportunity for us to acknowledge our student-athletes, coaches and teams for all they have accomplished during the 2019-20 season," said Traci Murphy, director of athletics. "While it's unfortunate that we can't physically be together, we are committed to providing all stakeholders in Western New York's premier Division II team an opportunity to celebrate these achievements."

In addition to the announcement of awards, the Athletic Department will offer replay broadcasts of select Daemen games from the past year available exclusively on Facebook. Stay tuned to daemenwildcats.com and the Athletic Departments social media platforms for more details.
