The Wildcats are ranked 20th in the latest Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) National Media Poll which was released this afternoon. The Wildcats' move into the national spotlight was preceded yesterday by their ascent to the top of the D2SIDA East Region Media Poll, also a program first. Daemen, the defending champions of the East Coast Conference, has not yet competed this season, but that's scheduled to change this weekend. The Wildcats will open their pandemic-shortened 2020-21 campaign when they host Mercyhurst for a 12 p.m. tip-off Saturday. Mercyhurst (5-0) is receiving votes in the national poll released today. The Wildcats return eight players, including three starters, from their 2019-20 team that went 23-5 overall and 13-3 in conference play. All-ECC selections Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y.), Caroline White (Fairport, N.Y.) and Katie Titus (Penfield, N.Y.) lead the returners after combining for 40.4 points and 20.4 rebounds per game last season. Filbert, a 5-foot-9 redshirt senior guard who led the team in scoring (14.4 ppg) and assists (3.7 apg), was named the ECC Preseason Player of the Year last week. The D2SIDA National Media Poll is conducted by sports information professionals representing the eight regions that comprise NCAA Division II. Today's poll is the first released by D2SIDA since early December. D2SIDA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NATIONAL MEDIA POLL - JAN. 12 W-L PTS. PREV. 1. Drury (15) 8-0 399 1 2. Ashland 2-0 376 2 3.
