Daemen Women's Basketball Head Coach Jenepher Banker Quotes
January 16, 2021 – Mercyhurst Postgame

On playing their first game after a 314-day gap due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic...
"One of our goals this year was to play a game. So, to make that happen, from the athletic training staff to the operations staff, for everybody involved to make that happen here today was just amazing. And yeah, I mean, we couldn't ask for anything more to just play a game."

On today's win...
"I can't tell you how proud I am of them. It's tough going into your first game without a scrimmage. First of all, we have no idea. We've got new players, we have no idea how they're going to play in a college game. So, we have no idea about that. And really, it's very difficult to start a year with no scrimmages, no exhibitions anyways. And then to start it against a team that's really played seven games because they also played two exhibition games. And they're good. Mercyhurst is good. I'm so proud of our kids. They did a great job with our scout, our players did. For them to be able to do that the first time out against a very good team, I'm super proud of them."

On Tiara Filbert reaching the 1,000-point milestone...
"So excited for her. What a great player. She's just a phenomenal player on both ends of the floor. And, you never know what's going to happen in this year of COVID whether you're going to play at all. So to be able to play that game and for her to get her 1,000th point, she deserves that. She's put so much work in and I couldn't be more happier than that was able to happen today."

On the defensive effort it took to limit Mercyhurst's top player, Jayde Boyd...
"She's a very good player. But also, that team is very good. So it was really a team scout. And obviously, there were specific things that we tried to do with her. But really, we kind of had to try to do it with everybody. And so, we tried to take away what it seemed like their strengths were. It didn't look like that too much in the fourth quarter, but we did really a phenomenal job with the defensive scout."

On production off the bench...
"That's one thing we say, 'hey, play as hard as you can and then trust the next person to go in and do their job.' Because we're pretty balanced. We're pretty balanced with players that can come in and give us production. So I thought we did a good job today."
