Junior forward Katie Titus (Penfield, N.Y.) scored a game-high 25 points, including 16 in the second half, as the Wildcats opened East Coast Conference play against league newcomer D'Youville, 85-52, Friday night at College Center Gymnasium. The game marked the first time these two opponents have faced each other since February of 2003. With the victory, Daemen is now off to their 15th 2-0 start in program history, the third of the team's NCAA era. QUARTER-BY-QUARTER SUMMARY First Quarter (Daemen 20, D'Youville 8) – The Wildcats started the contest on an 8-0 run with contributions from Titus, Filbert and Mickayla Ivy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) before Haley Kirisits scored the first bucket for the Saints to briefly stop the bleeding. A three-point play from White and a fast-break basket from Filbert and two more baskets from Ivy (8 points total) built up the Wildcats lead over the last three minutes of the period. Second Quarter (D'Youville 14, Daemen 11) – After a Titus basket grew Daemen's lead to 15 points with under seven minutes left in the half (25-10), the Wildcats went into a cold spell offensively while the Saints went on a 5-0 run for over three minutes as a three-pointer from Hore and another lay-up from Kirisits allowed the Saints to cut the deficit to 10 points (25-15.) White ended the Saints momentum with back-to-back baskets as part of her 9 points in the half. A Saints foul shortly before the break allowed Filbert to convert one of two free-throws to preserve the Wildcats' double-digit lead (33-22). Third Quarter (Daemen 30, D'Youville 20) – Behind 5 points from Titus and more success inside the paint from Filbert, Ivy and White, the Wildcats started the frame on an 11-2 run to build their lead to 20 points (44-24) with 7:22 remaining. The Saints heated up when Pfeiffer converted four three-pointers over the last five minutes of the frame while Filbert and Autumn Buchsenschutz (Port Allegany, Pa.) found long-range success of their own in this span. The offensive brigade sent the teams to the fourth quarter with Daemen leading, 63-42. Fourth Quarter (Daemen 22, D'Youville 10) – Despite Pfeiffer's final three-pointer coming in the first minute of the frame, the Wildcats contained their pressure and went on a 19-5 run over the last 8:12 with scoring from a host of players and building a 33-point lead at the buzzer, their largest of the season.
