The announcement was made today at the Wildcat Night of Honors, an annual event held at Lumsden Gymnasium to recognize the achievements of the college's intercollegiate teams and student-athletes. Fasoyiro, a 6-foot-3 guard who was also recognized today with an Iron Wildcat award for his dedication to strength and conditioning, made an immediate impact in his first season with the program, helping the Wildcats capture their first-ever NCAA Division II East Regional title. Daemen advanced to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Division II National Championships, finishing the season with a 10-6 overall record and ranked ninth in the final Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) national media poll. A graduate transfer, Fasoyiro appeared in 81 games over three seasons at Franklin Pierce, but took his game to new heights as a Wildcat. He producing 13.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 47.1% from the field - all career-highs. After posting one double-double in his time at FPU, Fasoyiro has doubled up three times this season, including a 12-point, 10-rebound performance in Daemen's 71-70 win over rival St. Thomas Aquinas in the East Regional final. A Texas native who spent his prep days in Ontario, Canada, Fasoyiro reached double-figure scoring in 12 of 16 games this season. He scored a career-high 31 points in a win over D'Youville on February 24 when he shot a sizzling 12-for-20 from the field. He was named the East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for February 15-21 when he averaged 8.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals to go with 17.0 points during Wildcat victories over D'Youville, Roberts Wesleyan and Mercy. Fasoyiro was later recognized with selections to the All-ECC First Team and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District First Team. Fasoyiro is the second basketball player to earn Male Newcomer of the Year honors since the award's inception following the 2016-17 season. In its inaugural presentation, the award was given to basketball student-athlete Jeff Redband. Other past recipients include soccer player Noah Keem (2018) as well as volleyball standouts Jahari Winkfield (2019) and Zach Yerington (2020). Additional nominees for the 2020-21 Male Newcomer of the Year were track and field athlete Hessen Bahgat (Fredonia, N.Y.), tennis player Ben Davis (Rochester, N.Y.), basketball player Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.), soccer player Dennis Montero Guerrero (Weingarten, Germany) and volleyball player Robert Patzer (Liverpool, N.Y.).
