Right side hitter Caitlyn Meyer (Clarence, N.Y.), who led the St. Mary's of Lancaster Lancers to state titles in 2014 and 2016, will join the Daemen College women's volleyball program as a graduate transfer, head coach Stephanie Albano announced today. Meyer's arrival with the Wildcats comes after she spent the last four seasons competing at James Madison University, an NCAA Division I and Colonial Athletic Association affiliate. The six-foot right side hitter averaged 1.11 kills and 0.53 blocks per set in her JMU career which featured three 20-win seasons, four trips to the CAA tournament finals and an NCAA tournament berth. Meyer has also been a consistent Dean's List student and a past honoree of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. Meyer helped the Dukes post a 7-3 overall record in her senior season which was played this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She posted a career-high 14 kills the CAA tournament finals last month, earning herself a place on the all-tournament team. She will have one season of eligibility with the Wildcats, utilizing a blanket waiver granted to all fall sport student-athletes by the NCAA because of the pandemic. After graduating from JMU with a degree in Business Administration, she'll study in Daemen's Master of Business Administration program. "I'm thrilled to have Caitlyn joining us in the fall. I've known her for a number of years as I've followed her career going back to high school," said Albano. "Caitlyn's pedigree as a Division I athlete on a championship team will bode well for us. Her experience, work ethic and drive will provide an immediate impact on our program." We are stoked to be bringing WNY native Caitlyn Meyer back to town to use her extra year of eligibility with us as a grad transfer. 2-time state champ and former All-WNY player spent 4 seasons with @JMUVolleyball & will pursue her MBA degree here! pic.twitter.com/M8VU57zXPi — Daemen Women's VB (@DaemenWVB) May 17, 2021 As a prep star at St. Mary's, Meyer was a multi-time All-Western New York selection as well as the 2016 Msgr. Martin Athletic Association Player of the Year. That season, she tallied 399 kills and 178 digs while leading the Lancers to the second Catholic High School Athletic Association state championship of her career. Meyer will be the seventh St. Mary's product to play for Daemen since 2013 - all of whom brought state championship credentials. That list includes defensive specialist Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.), a three-time state champ who will enter her sophomore season come September. Meyer is also the fifth student-athlete in Daemen's 2021 recruiting class. She joins first-year Daemen commits Amelia Armstrong (River Falls, Wisc.), Alex Leise (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Brianna Martin (Mundelein, Ill.) and Kate Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y.) whose signings were announced last November and December. Daemen posted a 3-3 record during an abbreviated season this spring, with 12 players set to return in the fall. The program has posted a 76-50 overall record and made two NCAA tournament berths since Albano took the reins in 2016. Daemen College features the premier NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
