Daemen Volleyballers Snag ECC Weekly Awards Meyer, Brundage Awarded For Second Straight Week; Alessi Recognized As Well 9/13/2021 3:55:00 PM By: CONTACT: Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications | (716) 839-8385 | mmiranto@daemen.edu AMHERST, N.Y. - Caitlyn Meyer (Clarence, N.Y.), Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) and Olivia Alessi (East Aurora, N.Y.) of Daemen College were each among the recipients for East Coast Conference weekly awards which were announced today in the league's weekly sport report. For the second consecutive week, Meyer was named the ECC Player of the Week and Brundage was selected as the ECC Defensive Player of the Week. Alessi joined in the recognition as she was named the ECC Setter of the Week. All three athletes keyed a 2-1 weekend for the Wildcats as they competed at the Cavalier Invitational on the campus of Walsh University. A 6-foot right side hitter, Meyer continued to make a splash in her first season with the Wildcats. Across the Wildcats' three tournament matches, she totaled 55 kills and averaged 4.58 kills per set while posting a .312 hitting percentage. In Daemen's 3-2 loss to Davenport on Friday evening, Meyer put down a career-high 23 kills. It marked only the 16th time in the program's NCAA Division II era (2015-present) that a player recorded at least 20 kills, and was the most for a Daemen player since Ashley Drzymala recorded 25 kills vs. New York Tech on October 1, 2016. She went on to post 15 kills in a three-set win over Notre Dame (Ohio), and her .406 hitting percentage marked her second match this season at .400+. She added a team-high 17 kills and 10 digs in a 3-1 win over Mercyhurst - her first double-double as a Wildcat. Meyer has appeared in all 26 sets this season and is leading the ECC in total kills (101) and kills per set (3.88). She has recoded 10+ kills in six of Daemen's seven matches, including the last five in a row. Brundage, a 5-foot-5 sophomore, continued to lead the Wildcat defense. She racked up 60 digs last weekend, good for an average of 5.00 digs per set. She totaled a career-high 31 digs in the loss to Davenport, becoming the first Daemen player with at least 30 since Georgia Wicker (33) vs. Bridgeport on November 10, 2019. Brundage added 13 digs in the win over NDC and 16 more in the win over Mercyhurst. So far this season, Brundage has appeared in all 26 sets and is leading the ECC in total digs (114) and digs per set (4.38). Alessi totaled 129 assists and averaged 10.75 assists per set while posting three straight double-doubles - the first of her collegiate career. She recorded a career-high 50 assists and added 14 digs vs. Davenport. Saturday, she recorded 43 assists - an average of 14.33 assists per set - and added 11 digs in the win over Notre Dame, and finished the weekend with 36 assists and a career-high 17 digs against Mercyhurst. For her efforts, Alessi was named to the Cavalier Invitational All-Tournament Team. Alessi is averaging 9.31 assists per set, third-best among the ECC leaders this season. Meyer, Brundage, Alessi and the rest of the Wildcats return to action this Friday, September 17 when they meet New Haven (2 p.m.) and American International (4 p.m.) in the first of three matches this weekend at the Redhawks Invitational on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.
