Wildcats Claim First Place At Daemen Storm Fall Classic

Daemen Earns Team Title For The Second Straight Week

LANCASTER, N.Y. - Make it two team titles in a row for the Daemen University women's bowling team. The Wildcats closed out play at the Daemen Storm Fall Classic atop the eight team leader board. The team championship comes just one week after taking first place at the Grapevine Classic in Erie, Pa.

The Wildcats ended up winning six of 10 matches over the two days and placed first with a total pin fall of 8,967 for a per game average of 179.3.

The Wildcats finished ahead of crosstown rival Medaille, which came in second with 8,781 pins for an average of 175.6. Medaille entered the 2022-23 season ranked 10th nationally in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) DII/DIII Preseason Poll. Saint Vincent (8,732), Walsh (8,655) and D'Youville (8,378) rounded out the top five. The remaining teams included Penn State Behrend (7,838), Pitt-Bradford (7,440) and Hilbert (7,104).

Daemen now stands at 18-7 on the season.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Daemen went 4-1 during the opening day and entered day two in first place with 4,533 total pins.
  • All of today's matches were scored using Baker Format.
  • Daemen opened the day with an 934-933 loss to Medaille. Daemen was ahead 591-543 after winning the first three games, but Medaille posted a 200-188 win in game four and secured the win with a 191-171 win in game five.
  • The Wildcats rebounded with back-to-back wins over Pitt-Bradford (936-771) and D'Youville (911-815). Daemen won four of five games against Pitt-Bradford and took three of five against D'Youville.
  • Daemen then squared off against Saint Vincent, which handed the Wildcats their only loss on day one. Saint Vincent came out on top again, as the Bearcats took the first four games en route to a 924-839 victory.
  • Daemen faced Saint Vincent again in the positional round and the Bearcats came out on top again, 855-815.
  • Junior Mollie Gizicki (Brighton, Mich.) and senior Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y) both earned all-tournament honors after finishing among the top five bowlers during Saturday's traditional round. Gizicki earned tournament MVP after posting a tournament-best 205.8 average. The remaining all-tournament members included Rachael Blose of D'Youville (194.0), Nowak (190.4) and Jessica Lawrence (188.4) and Alicia Vacono (186.8) of Walsh.

Daemen returns to action next weekend (Nov. 5-6) when the Wildcats take part in the Medaille Brunswick Invitational.
