WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's tennis team picked up its first league win of the year following a 5-2 victory over cross-town rival D'Youville University in a match played at Village Glen Tennis Center.
Daemen posted its second-straight win and improved to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the East Coast Conference. D'Youville dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.
Daemen swept all three doubles matches to earn the one point as per NCAA Division II scoring. The Daemen tandem of junior Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) improved to 3-1 in doubles play this year following a 6-0 win over Yuliia Kashtelian and Khushi Agarwal at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) and freshman Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) also posted a 6-0 score over Paola Ermina and Julia Clapper at No. 2 doubles, while senior Mackenzie Schayes (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) and senior Ailish McDevitt (Jamesville, N.Y.) downed Eli Katelyn Hoover and Taylor-Anne Austin, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles.
Daemen built a 5-0 lead and secured the win, before the Saints earned the final two points.
Scime downed Agarwai at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0), Del Leon defeated Ermina at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1), Armitage defeated Clapper at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0) and Schayes took down Hoover at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0).
Scime improved to 7-3 in singles play this year following her win today, while Del Leon and Armitage both picked up their fourth singles victory.
