The men's basketball team opened the 2022-23 season by posting wins over Georgian Court (65-60) and regionally-ranked Saint Anselm (81-69) at the East Region Challenge presented by Western New York Knee and Orthopedic Surgery PC this past weekend. Redshirt senior Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) was named tournament MVP, while senior Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) and freshman Justin Glover (Buffalo, N.Y.) were named to the all-tournament team. The Wildcats will square off against their second-straight regionally-ranked opponent on Wednesday when they host Mercyhurst University of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. It will mark the 2022-23 season opener for Mercyhurst, which went 25-7 last year and is ranked third in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region preseason poll. Daemen will then host another PSAC school on Saturday, as Clarion makes its first ever visit to Lumsden Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles opened the year with losses to Winston-Salem (65-49) and Concord (80-60) during the Clarion Tip-Off Classic this past weekend.

Saturday, Nov. 19 – at NCAA Division II East Region Championships - Farmingdale, N.Y. - Women (6K) 1:15 p.m. / Men (10K) 12 p.m.
The Daemen cross county teams return to action Saturday when they head to Long Island, N.Y. to take part in the 2022 NCAA Division II East Region Championships. The races will determine the region's three national championship-qualifying teams, as well as three national championship-qualifying individuals. The East Region is comprised of teams affiliated with the East Coast Conference, the Northeast-10 Conference and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Adelphi University of the NE-10 will serve as the regional host. The Daemen men and women are both coming off a a second-place showing at the 2022 ECC Championships two weeks ago on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan. The Daemen women are ranked third in the region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while the men are ranked eighth.

The women's basketball team opened the 2022-23 season with wins over nationally-ranked Pace (52-45) and Felician (72-60) this past weekend at the Redhawks Classic hosted by Roberts Wesleyan. Newcomer Paige Emborsky (Newfane, N.Y.) connected on 6-of-9 three-pointers over the two games and averaged a team-high 15.5 points. She netted 17 points in the win over Pace. The Wildcats will host two Northeast-10 Conference teams this week. They will take on Le Moyne in their 2022-23 home opener on Wednesday. Le Moyne comes to town sporting a 2-0 record after opening the year with wins over Lake Erie (81-67) and Post (60-47) this past weekend. The Dolphins went 17-8 last year and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Saint Michael's stands at 1-1 after losing to St. Thomas Aquinas (80-56) and defeating Mercy (73-64) this past weekend at the STAC Tip-Off Challenge. The Purple Knights went 4-21 last season.

The women's volleyball team captured their second-straight East Coast Conference Championship this past weekend at Lumsden Gymnasium after posting win s over Mercy (3-0) and Molloy (3-0). The Wildcats also earned an automatic bid to the 64-team 2022 NCAA Division II Tournament. Daemen is seeded second in the NCAA Division II Tournament East Regional and will face seventh-seeded Saint Anselm College in the quarterfinals on Thursday (Nov. 17). The winner advances to play either third-seeded Bentley or sixth-seeded Southern New Hampshire in the semifinals on Friday. The regional championship match is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. The eight-team East Regional will be hosted by top-seeded American International College in Springfield, Mass. Daemen, which is making its fourth overall appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament, is the defending East Region champion.
Graduate student Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) was named Most Outstanding Player of the ECC Tournament, while senior Maggie Burns (Louisville, Ky.) was voted ECC Player of the Year. Junior Olivia Alessi (East Aurora, N.Y.) was voted ECC Co-Setter of the Year, while first-year head coach Eli Irizarry was named ECC Coach of the Year.
