The Wildcats recorded 57 points to Benedictine's 39 and posted a .397 hitting percentage in the win. Daemen, which was coming off yesterday's 3-1 loss to No. 11 Loyola Chicago, improved to 11-3 this season. An independent member of NCAA Division I-II, the Wildcats have won nine of their last 11 matches overall. Today's victory was their 18th consecutive against a Division II or III opponent. Benedictine dropped to 8-7 on the season. The Eagles return 11 players, including two All-Americans, from their 2021 team that finished 16-4 after advancing to the Division III national championship match. The Eagles had no answer for the strong service of the Wildcats. Daemen entered the match ranked second among all Division I-II teams in service aces per set (2.28) and added 10 more to their total, outscoring the Eagles by nine from the service line. Daemen built an early 11-4 lead and never trailed in the opening set. The Eagles pulled within 24-23 late, but committed a service error to end the frame. BU took their first lead of the match on a Daemen attack error to open the second set. That was quickly erased as the Wildcats scored 17 of the next 23 points. The Eagles managed to close the gap but never seriously threated before Daemen's Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) ended the frame with a kill. The Eagles fell behind again in the third set, but tied things up at 18-18. Daemen scored the next four points, including two on kills by Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.), to regain control. Twice the Eagles got within a point (23-22, 24-22) but were met with Daemen kills each time, including Milligan's match clincher. IMPACT PLAYERS Schneider, a junior outside hitter, recorded a match-high 12 kills and posted a .526 hitting percentage to lead the Wildcats. The program's all-time leader in kills with 421, Schneider has posted double-figure kills in three straight and nine of his 12 matches this season. Daemen's middle hitters were nearly flawless. Senior Henry Moffitt (Sydney, Australia) and junior Jake Couzens (Hamburg, N.Y.) combined for 16 kills and a .727 hitting percentage. The duo did not commit a hitting error and added three service aces apiece. Milligan chipped in with nine kills and a match-high seven digs.
