Athletics Donors Set New Day Of Giving Benchmark

More than $30,000 added to Division of Athletics' fundraising accounts in 24-period

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University Division of Athletics is pleased to share that more than $30,000 was raised last Wednesday, April 13 for Daemen Day of Giving, a 24-hour online giving campaign aimed at increasing philanthropy among the entire Daemen community, including alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff and students. For the second consecutive year donors raised the bar, contributing a record amount of dollars to the Division of Athletics' fundraising coffers.

Donations were made to various accounts that impact the Division of Athletics, including the Athletics Annual Fund, Varsity Letter Fund and Academic and Athletic Excellence Fund. In addition, donations were made directly to Daemen's intercollegiate athletic programs. In all, 352 donations were made, totaling $32,489 - nearly a $5,000 increase from monies donated on Daemen Day of Giving in April 2021. One hundred percent of donations will be put towards enhancing the student-athlete experience through athletic scholarships, recruitment, improvements to facilities and investments in coaching staffs - all in line with The Wildcat Way, the five-year strategic vision for Daemen Athletics announced last year.

"We are once again humbled by the support and generosity of our many donors," said Director of Athletics Traci Murphy. "It's often said that Daemen's greatest assets are its community atmosphere and the people who pass through our campus, whether they are students, faculty, staff, parents, friends or alumni. It's important for us to continue to foster those relationships to ensure that their connection to Daemen never ends. Our coaches and current student-athletes are getting better at those engagement opportunities and it shows by how our donors responded. It's not lost on us that this amount of support has come while inflation is at a 40-year high in our country. We are deeply grateful for everyone  who has chosen to invest in The Wildcat Way."

The top performing programs included men's and women's cross country/track and field, men's volleyball and women's basketball. The cross country/track and field program netted more than 100 donations totaling nearly $14,000. Donations to the men's volleyball and women's basketball programs totaled more than $3,000 each.

Additionally, more than $2,000 was donated to the women's soccer and volleyball programs, as well as the Athletics Annual Fund. The men's basketball and women's lacrosse programs were the beneficiaries of more than $1,000 each. Overall, the average donation was a little more than $92.
