Filbert Earns Daemen Sports Medicine P.R.I.D.E. Award

AMHERST, N.Y. - Women's basketball student-athlete Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y.) has been named the 2021-22 Daemen Sports Medicine P.R.I.D.E. Award recipient. The award was presented by Assistant Athletic Trainer/Senior Woman Administrator Karen Roehling this evening at the Wildcat Night of Honors, an annual event held on campus to recognize the achievements of the university's intercollegiate teams and student-athletes.

Instituted in 2018, the Daemen Sports Medicine P.R.I.D.E. Award is presented annually to the student-athlete who best exemplifies perserverance, resilience, integrity, determination and expectations of excellence during an injury rehabilitation process. Filbert was lauded for her efforts in recovering from an injury that ended her 2020-21 season, causing her to miss the Wildcats' run to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.

Undeterred, Filbert worked her back to the lineup while utilizing an additional season of eligibility granted by the NCAA for student-athletes who have competed through the COVID-19 pandemic. She appeared in and started all 27 games and logged a team-high 892 minutes while leading the Wildcats to a 22-5 overall record, a 16-1 East Coast Conference record, the program's third straight ECC regular season title, a second ECC tournament title in the last three seasons, a third consecutive NCAA tournament berth and a run to the final round of the 2022 NCAA Division II East Regional.

The 5-foot-9 redshirt senior guard averaged 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while leading the team in assists with 108. She was named to the All-ECC First Team for the third consecutive season.

Filbert is the first women's basketball player to receive the Sports Medicine P.R.I.D.E. Award. Previous recipients include volleyball player Courtney Bernard (2018), basketball player Nick Petrucelli (2019), soccer player Katelyn Sidoti (2020) and volleyball player Allison Post (2021).
