PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team picked up an exhibition win over Division III powerhouse St. John Fisher on Sunday afternoon, taking it to five sets to top the Cardinals 3-2 (16-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-6) on Fisher's home court. Three of the last four meetings between the Wildcats and Cardinals have gone to five sets, and Daemen has come out on the winning side of things in all four of those matches. The Wildcats own a 4-2 all-time series record over the Cardinals, and are 4-0 in exhibition matches in the program's five year history.
Daemen's big duo of outside hitters in sophomore
Billy Wieberg (Grand Island, N.Y.) and junior
Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) combined for 35 of the Wildcats' 69 total kills in the match, with Wieberg's 18 kills (3.6 kills per set) and 21 points led all hitters on the day. 10 Wildcats recorded kills as Daemen out-killed the Cardinals 69 to 41 for a .287 hitting percentage through five sets. Sean Califf (Oak Park, Ill.) and
Michael Krueger (Canonsburg, Pa.) took turns running the Daemen offense today, with Califf totaling 36 assists (12 assists per set) and Krueger finishing with 18 assists (9 assists per set).
3-1 Daemen remains on the road next weekend with a pair of matches in Massachusetts, first against Harvard on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 PM in their second match against an Ivy League opponent this season, then they will play American International for the second time in three weeks at AIC's home court on Saturday, Feb. 4 at noon.
