ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's basketball team dropped their 2023-24 season opener 76-61 to the Bentley Falcons in the Redhawks Classic on Friday night.
The Wildcats shot 38-percent from the field (20-of-53), 39-percent from beyond the three (5-of-13) and 76-percent from the free throw line (16-of-21). Senior guard
Alahna Paige (Rochester, N.Y.) led all shooters on the floor, totaling 24 points after shooting 53-percent (8-of-15) from the field and knocking down four of seven three-point shots. Paige was the only Wildcat to score in the double-digits tonight.
Daemen will look to split the Redhawks Classic tomorrow afternoon as they take on Felician in a 1 PM game.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Senior guard Gabby McDuffie (Buffalo, N.Y.) totaled eight points after shooting 2-of-5 from the field and added one assist and one steal to her stat line.
- Redshirt freshman guard Kayla Campbell (Franklin, N.Y.) led the team with four assists and totaled five points, one block and one defensive rebound.
- Junior forward Julia Hauer (Binghamton, N.Y.) snagged eight rebounds, including six defensive boards, and added an assist to her six-point outing.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- After shooting 50-percent from the field (6-of-12) and banking both shots beyond the arc in the first, the Wildcats had a narrow lead, 17-16, after the first ten minutes of play.
- Bentley took a two-point lead 12 seconds into the second and never relinquished their lead in the quarter. The Falcons took a 39-30 lead into the half after out-shooting the Wildcats 50-percent (10-of-20) to 27-percent (3-of-11) in the second.
- Seven of the nine Wildcats that entered the game in the first half scored points. Paige led all shooters with 12 first-half points.
- Daemen put together a solid third quarter, scoring 20 points after shooting 6-of-16 from the field, 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and 6-of-9 from the free throw stripe.
- Bentley took just four shots from the field in the fourth and knocked down three of them but scored 10 of their 17 fourth quarter points off free throws. The Wildcats fouled eight times in the fourth.
- The Falcons out-rebounded the Wildcats 40-26 on the night.
- Daemen totaled 10 steals as speedy sophomore Shyla Montgomery (Brockton, Mass.) led the charge with four steals. Sophomore guard Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) added three steals.
