COLUMBUS, OH – The Daemen University men's volleyball team opened their 2024 season with a 3-1 (25-14, 19-25, 24-26, 18-25) loss to #5 Ohio State University on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats move to 0-1 on the year, while OSU improves to 2-0 early. Playing just their third top-five opponent in program history, the Wildcats earned their first ever set victory over a top-10 ranked opponent, taking the first set 25-14 over the Buckeyes. Ohio State went on to win the final three sets to take the match.
Daemen played the Buckeyes close throughout the entire match, but it was OSU that led the game with 51 kills to Daemen's 37. Daemen finished with a .223 hitting percentage after keeping the attack errors to a minimum (16) on 94 total attacks. The Wildcats led the match with 11 total blocks to Ohio State's seven total, with Daemen winning the block assist battle (23-12).

Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) leading the way offensively with 12 kills.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Milligan totaled 12 kills on 34 attacks with just five errors for a .206 hitting percentage, adding six block assists, four digs, one solo block and one ace.
- Fifth year outside hitter Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) totaled nine kills on 25 attacks. He added three aces, two digs and one block assist.
- Junior middle hitter Maverick O'Neill (East Amherst, N.Y.) finished with eight kills on 15 attacks with just two errors for a .400 hitting percentage along with three block assists, three digs, and two aces.
- Fifth year setter Sean Califf (Oak Park, Ill.) led the Wildcats with 28 assists and added five block assists and five digs.
- Freshman middle blocker Ondrej Arabasz (Jicin, Czech Republic) led the team with seven block assists and totaled three kills for a 1.00 hitting percentage, two digs and one assist.
- Ohio State senior outside Jacob Pasteur led all players with 18 kills.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Daemen squared off against Ohio State for the first meeting in program history.
- The Wildcats got out to a hot start from the jump, taking a 6-2 lead and then keeping the foot on the gas from there. Daemen led as much as 18-7 in the first set, taking advantage of Ohio State's early mishaps and cruised to a 25-14 victory in the first set.
- Daemen held OSU to just six first set kills and totaled 11 offensively while hitting at a .444 clip in the first. Milligan and Schneider combined for seven kills with Milligan leading the way in the set with four.
- After offensive woes in the first, the Buckeyes turned it around in the second set. After the Wildcats tied the game up at nine, OSU won the next three points and never looked back. With the Wildcats by three late in the set, OSU scored the final three points to win the second set 25-19.
- OSU standout Jacob Pasteur totaled six of Ohio State's 15 kills in the second. Daemen totaled 8 kills for a .148 hitting percentage. Milligan led the Wildcats with three kills.
- The Wildcats opened the third with a 10-6 advantage, but from there the Buckeyes went on two separate runs to take a 16-13 lead. Daemen would tie the set up at 18, and from there it was a race to the finish. The set was tied at 14, but OSU won the final two points to take the third 26-24 and send it to a fourth set.
- Daemen and Ohio State traded points early in the fourth, but the Buckeyes put the pedal to the metal, out-killing Daemen 14-8 for a .355 hitting percentage to win the final set 25-18.
