Women's Basketball Drops Exhibition Contest to Division I St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's basketball team closed their exhibition slate with a trip to St. Bonaventure University. The Wildcats fell to the Bonnies, 71-57, Friday evening at the Reilly Center with two members of the Cats finishing in double figures.
 
Today marked the first meeting between the two Western New York schools since Dec. 2, 1987, which also took place in Olean, N.Y.
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
• Graduate student Danielle DiCintio (Somers, N.Y.) led the Daemen offense with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting with five makes from deep.
• On the glass, freshman Ne'vaeh Buntley (Rochester, N.Y.) collected a game-high nine rebounds while junior Cecilia Lapertosa (Whitesboro, N.Y.) tallied eight boards to pair with a team-high three assists and three blocks.
• Junior Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) notched 10 points of her own while adding in two steals and two blocks for the Cats.
• Sophomore Sophie Auer (Lewiston, N.Y.) chipped in eight points and three rebounds.
• Dani Haskell led the St. Bonaventure offense with 20 points with Payton Fields close behind with 19 points of her own. On the glass, Gabby Robinson Forde collected eight rebounds while Nadechka Laccen totaled five assists.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Shyla Montgomery (Brockton, Mass.) Lapertosa and DiCintio all recorded a bucket in the first quarter as the Bonnies led the Wildcats, 19-7, after they ended the quarter on a 11-3 run with six scores coming from the free-throw line.
• The three ball took over in the second quarter as the two sides combined for 11 makes from deep as Daemen knocked down six 3-pointers while DiCintio led the Wildcats efforts from deep with three makes during the frame. Despite closing the half on an 11-5 run, Daemen entered the break down, 42-29.
• Daemen and St. Bonaventure combined for 14 trips to the free-throw line in the third quarter with the Wildcats making all four of their shots while the Bonnies went 7-of-10 (.700) from the charity stripe. Still, St. Bonaventure led, 59-41, entering the fourth quarter.
• The Wildcats came out swinging to begin the final frame, recording 11 of the first 14 points of the stanza to trim the hosts advantage, 62-52, with 5:46 to play.
• Each side trade scores the remainder of the way with St. Bonaventure holding onto their lead to the final buzzer. Auer led the Blue and White in scoring during the final stanza with eight points while as a team, Daemen outscored St. Bonaventure, 16-12, in the fourth quarter.
• The Bonnies ended the contest shooting 20-of-64 (.313) from the field and 11-of-28 (.393) from beyond the arc. As for Daemen, they shot 21-of-57 (.368) overall and 8-of-23 (.348) from deep.

UP NEXT
The Wildcats will now turn their attention to the regular season, beginning with a trip to Rochester, N.Y. to compete in the Redhawks Classic on Nov. 8-9 where they will play games against Felician University (Nov. 8) and Assumption University (Nov. 9)
