AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team moved to 13-3 on the year with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-15) win over Tusculum University in Lumsden Gymnasium on Friday night. Playing in their final home match of March, the Wildcats win their seventh non-conference game of the year.
A pair of upperclassmen Wildcats totaled double-digit kills on the night, with senior opposite
Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) and fifth year outside
Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) each posting 11 kills on the night. Daemen finished the night out-hitting Tusculum 42 to 27, hitting at a .429 clip in the win after tallying just nine errors on 77 attacks.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Milligan hit in the .600s for the second match this week, finishing 11 of 15 with two errors for a .600 hitting percentage, adding four digs, two aces, one assist and one block assist for 13.5 points on the night.
- Schneider tallied double-digit kills for the 10th straight match, finishing with 11 kills on 23 attacks to hit at a .261 clip on the night. The fifth year led all players with 14.5 points on the night, adding eight digs, two aces, one solo block and one block assist.
- Freshman middle Ondrej Arabasz (Jicin, Czech Republic) totaled seven kills with zero errors on 12 attacks for a .583 hitting percentage, adding two assists and one dig on the night.
- Juniors Billy Wieberg (Grand Island, N.Y.) and Ethan Sturm (Lisle, Ill.) finished with six and five kills, respectively, and each totaled six points on the night. Wieberg was six of 13 for a .308 hitting percentage with three digs and two assists, while Sturm finished five of nine with zero errors for a .556 clip, adding two block assists and three digs in the win.
- Fifth year setter Sean Califf (Oak Park, Ill.) totaled 31 assists (10.3 assists/set) on the night, adding six digs, two kills, one ace and one solo block.
GAME NOTES
- This marked the second time the Wildcats and Pioneers met on the court, and the first time in the regular season. Daemen beat Tusculum 3-0 in the IVA Tournament quarterfinals on April 22, 2022. The Wildcats would advance to the championship match where they fell to Lincoln Memorial.
- The Wildcats are ranked second in the latest Off The Block Division II National Coaches Poll. Daemen has been included in 35 straight OTB D-II polls, and has been ranked second in the nation for the last three weeks.
- After two kills from each team to open up the first set tied at two, the Wildcats scored five unanswered points after kills from Schneider, Milligan and Sturm to jump out to a 7-2 lead. Tusclulum made it a one-point game, taking advantage of four Daemen errors (three attack and one service error), and took the 10-9 lead following another Wildcat attack error. From there, Daemen went on a 9-3 run, with the Cats totaling seven kills from five different players and finished winning four of the final five points to take the first set 25-17. Milligan led the way for the Wildcats in the first with seven of Daemen's 15 kills.
- The second set was close from the start, with both teams trading points to tie it up at 12. The Wildcats put together four separate runs outscoring Tusculum two to one from there, scoring 14 of the final 21 points in the match to take the second 25-19. Daemen tallied 15 kills with three errors on 24 attacks in the second to hit .500 in the set with Wieberg leading the charge with four second-set kills.
- Daemen never trailed in the third set, and after a close start to the set, the Wildcats scored four unanswered points in the middle of the set to take a seven-point lead over the Pioneers which they maintained through to the end, beating Tusculum 25-15 in the third and final set. Daemen hit .571 in the third set after notching 12 kills with zero errors on 21 attacks. Schneider was the leading hitter in the third, totaling seven kills in the set.
- The service errors were flying tonight, with the two teams combining for 29 errors from the service line, with 16 service errors coming in the third set alone. Daemen committed 12 service errors on the night but cut down on errors throughout the rest of the match, finishing with just nine attack errors, one reception error and zero block errors or ball handling errors.

The Wildcats are idle until March 22-23 when they will play at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pa. for a pair of Northeast Conference matches.
