ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team picked up their eighth non-conference match of the season, topping Roberts Wesleyan 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-16) on the road on Thursday evening. The Wildcats move to 15-6 on the year with the win while Roberts drops to 7-14 in their inaugural season.
The Wildcats outhit the Redhawks 32 to 23 on the night and hit .364 on the night while holding Roberts Wesleyan to a -.013 hitting percentage in the match. Eight Wildcats recorded kills in the win, with senior opposite
Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) leading the Wildcats on the night with seven kills. Junior outside hitter
Billy Wieberg (Grand Island, N.Y.) added six kills on the night.
Daemen and Roberts Wesleyan will meet again this weekend as the Wildcats host the Redhawks on Saturday at 4 PM at Lumsden Gymnasium.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Milligan led the Wildcats offensively with seven kills and zero errors on 11 attacks for a .636 hitting percentage, adding three digs and one solo block after playing in just two of Daemen's sets.
- Wieberg posted six kills with one error on 10 attacks to hit at a .500 clip while adding three assists, three digs and one ace in two sets.
- Junior middle Ethan Sturm (Lisle, Ill.) totaled five kills on seven attacks for a team-high .714 hitting percentage. Sturm totaled two block assists and three digs.
- Freshman middle blocker Ondrej Arabasz (Jicin, Czech Republic) tied Daemen's single season block record (64) with his two block assists tonight while adding three kills on eight attacks in the win.
- Junior middle Maverick O'Neill (East Amherst, N.Y.) posted four kills with one error on seven attacks for a .429 hitting percentage. The junior added two block assists, one ace and one dig.
- Graduate student Michael Krueger (Canonsburg, Pa.) set for the Wildcats tonight, finishing with a double-double) with 26 assists (8.6 assists/set) and 10 digs along with three block assists.
- Jack Rooney (Lakeview, N.Y.) and Jake Basinski (Eden, N.Y.) each tallied two kills on the night. Rooney added one ace and two digs.
GAME NOTES
- After trading points to open the first set with the Wildcats leading 4-3, Daemen went on a 10-2 run after taking advantage of five Roberts errors to lead 14-5. The Wildcats only gave up seven more points for the rest of the set and won the first, 25-12. Daemen totaled 12 kills in the first set and finished with a .524 hitting percentage.
- The Cats jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the second after posting five kills to open the set but the Redhawks put together a 4-2 run to bring the set within four points. Daemen remained in the lead throughout the rest of the second and finished with a 25-18 second-set victory.
- Daemen dominated the third set, taking a 14-6 lead early. The Wildcats had just six kills in the third but took the set 25-16 after taking advantage of 17 Redhawk errors.
- The Wildcats finished with seven total blocks after posting 12 block assists and one solo block. Daemen held the Redhawks to just two total blocks in the match.
