The Wildcats' defense recorded 18 steals, leading to a commanding 43 points off turnovers. The visiting team also dominated the paint with a 46-28 scoring advantage. The Lightning struggled to keep up, particularly in the first quarter, trailing by 16 points by the end of the quarter. IMPACT PLAYERS Sophie Auer (Lewiston, N.Y.) led the way with a career-high 20 points, converting 6-of-11 field goals and hitting three 3-pointers, while also recording two steals. Cecilia Lapertosa (Whitesboro, N.Y.) contributed significantly with 17 points and nine rebounds, adding two assists and two steals. Ne'vaeh Buntley (Rochester, N.Y.) was perfect from the free-throw line, making all six attempts to finish with 12 points. The sophomore also grabbed four rebounds. Shyla Montgomery (Brockton, Mass.) logged eight points and dished out five assists. Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) also recorded five helpers and a game-high seven steals. Jalea Abrams (Elmira, N.Y.) was active on the boards, grabbing six rebounds while posting nine points INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Daemen opened the first quarter with a strong offensive display, quickly establishing control with an 8–0 run, highlighted by Cecilia Lapertosa's layup at 9:15, assisted by Montgomery. Pikett recorded multiple steals and assists and nailed a three-pointer at 8:19 that extended their lead. The Wildcats posted six steals and a block in the quarter. The first concluded with a successful three-pointer from Montgomery, assisted by Pikett, as Daemen led 31–15. The Wildcats seized momentum midway through the second quarter with Auer's 3-pointer at 6:15, extending their lead to 38–22. Auer continued to impact the game, later converting an and-one play at 5:29, boosting Daemen's advantage further. Despite Goldey-Beacom's efforts to close the gap, Daemen maintained control, finishing the quarter ahead 46–34. Daemen surged ahead in the third quarter with a decisive performance, outscoring the Lightning 26–13. Buntley ignited the momentum with a crucial layup at 8:42, contributing to the Wildcats' dominance in the paint. The team effectively capitalized on Goldey-Beacom's turnovers, accumulating six steals and converting them into points. Lapertosa added to the lead, converting a layup and free throw at 6:47, further extending Daemen's advantage. The third concluded with Daemen leading 72–47. In the final quarter, Daemen went on another decisive scoring run, highlighted by a series of key plays from Reece Beaver (Busti, N.Y.) and Lapertosa. Auer contributed with a 3-pointer at the 8:03 mark, and Daemen's bench added significant points, outscoring the Lightning's bench 16–9. GAME NOTES The Wildcats shot 51.6% (33-of-64) from the field, including a 42.1% mark (8-of-19) from three. The team scored 46 points in the paint. Daemen's defense held strong with 18 steals and five blocks in the contest The Wildcats held Goldey-Beacom to 29% shooting from three (5-of-17). Daemen led the entire game and led by double-digits for the final three quarters. The Wildcats' 96 points are their most in a game since Feb. 5, 2023, when they defeated District of Columbia 91-63 The game was the first meeting between the programs, with the Wildcats taking it. Daemen starts the season 2-0 and is 13-2 in its last 15 regular-season games, dating back to last season. The Wildcats are now 17-5 against CACC opponents since the start of the 2015-16 season (program's NCAA Division II era).
