QUEENS, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-23) victory over conference rival Queens University this afternoon. With the win, the Wildcats are now 10-12 and 6-3 in the ECC, while the Knights drop to 9-16 and 2-7 in the conference.

Daemen took a 12-6 lead in the opening set, but Queens used a 9-0 run to go in front 15-12.  The Knights pushed their lead to 23-17, but the Wildcats used a 4-0 run to trail 23-21. Queens tallied the final two points to win the set 25-23 and take an early 1-0 lead in the match.

With set two tied at five, Queens broke the tie with a 10-1 run to take a 15-6 lead.  Daemen strung together an 11-2 run to tie things at 17 before taking a 19-18 lead late in the set. The Knights used a 3-0 run to retake the lead at 21-19, but the Wildcats responded with a 6-0 run to win the set 25-21 and tie the match at one.

With the momentum on Daemen's side going into set three, the Wildcats jumped out to a 7-1 lead and later pushed the lead to 11-5. Queens attempted to chip away at the lead and were able to make it a five-point difference to trail 17-12, but it was not enough as Daemen went on to win the set 25-14 following an 8-4 run and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Looking to close the match out, Daemen wasted no time in the fourth set as it took a 6-4 lead. Queens worked its way back into it to tie the set at seven, but the Wildcats broke the tie using a 9-5 run to go back in front 16-12. The Knights closed the gap to two, but Daemen answered with a 5-0 run to make it 21-14. Both teams traded points only to find themselves tied at 23 before back-to-back Wildcat kills secured the win 25-23 and the match for Daemen.

The Wildcats recorded their fifth match of the season with double-digits in aces with 15 today, which was also a season-high. Amelia Gonzalez led the team with a match-high five aces.

Daemen's Keira Mullen (13), Avery Craig (11), and Nahirka Malpica (10) led the team in kills.

Molly Ryan paced the Wildcats in assists with 25, while teammate Maddie Schamaun tallied 21 of her own. Ryan added three block solos in the process.
