FAIRFAX, VA. – Playing against an AVCA top 10 team for the eighth time in program history, the Daemen University men's volleyball dropped their second consecutive match on the campus of George Mason with a 0-3 (18-25, 18-25, 14-25) loss against the #5 ranked UC Irvine Anteaters on Friday night. The Wildcats, who have lost three straight matches, move to 9-6 on the year while UCI Improves to 13-4 overall.
The Wildcats will hit the road to play at Princeton University on Saturday at 1 PM.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- For the second straight match, graduate student outside hitter Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) led the Wildcats offensively, totaling a team-high nine kills off 19 attacks for a .316 hitting percentage while adding two digs and was the only Wildcat to tally an ace on the night.
- Redshirt senior outside hitter Billy Wieberg (Grand Island, N.Y.) totaled eight kills on 18 attacks for a .333 hitting percentage along with one dig and one assist.
- Senior middle blocker Maverick O'Neill (East Amherst, N.Y.) finished with four kills and zero errors on six attacks for a team-high .667 hitting percentage and was the only Daemen player to record a block tonight, finishing with two solo blocks on the day.
- Sophomore Bradyn Winters (Coraopolis, Pa.) totaled 24 assists and a team-high three digs.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Daemen opened the match on a 12-9 run after totaling six kills and six Anteater errors. From there, UC Irvine scored eight of the next nine points off six kills to take a 17-13 advantage over the Cats. The Wildcats made it as close as a three-point game late, 19-16, but the Anteaters capped off the set on a 6-2 run to take the first, 25-18. Daemen totaled 11 kills and hit at a .292 clip in the set.
- UC Irvine was hot from the start of the second set, taking a 15-7 lead off 10 kills early on. The Wildcats continued to battle throughout the second but for the second straight set the Anteaters won, 25-18. UC Irvine totaled 16 kills on 22 attacks with just two errors for a .636 hitting percentage. Daemen totaled eight errors in the second set with five errors coming from the service line.
- Daemen and UCI exchanged points early in the third with both teams tallying four kills as the Anteaters led 9-7 early. UC Irvine would take an eight-point lead, 18-10, after going on a 9-3 run from there, and would maintain a lead to the end of the set to top the Wildcats 25-14. UCI hit .667 in the third off 11 kills.
