SPRINGFIELD, N.Y. — Johnaustin Bly (Lancaster, N.Y.) led the Daemen University men's volleyball team with 11 kills as the Wildcats swept American International College, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21) on Friday night. Daemen improves to 9-3 on the year while handing the Yellowjackets' their 12th loss of the season.
The Wildcats out-killed the Yellowjackets 36 to 25 and hit .333 while holding AIC to a .135 hitting percentage on the night. Five different Wildcats accumulated kills in the win, and six different players combined for 26 digs.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Bly, a redshirt sophomore outside hitter, led the Wildcats with 11 kills and 3 errors for a team-high .444 while adding six digs, three aces and two assists.
- Sophomore outside hitter Jack Rooney (Lakeview, N.Y.) tallied nine kills with just one error to hit at a team-high .444 clip along with two blocks, two digs, one ace and one assist.
- Redshirt freshman right side Eddie Kwarciak (Grand Island, N.Y.) finished with seven kills and led the Cats with seven digs while adding one block and one ace.
- Sophomore Bradyn Winters (Coraopolis, Pa.) set the Wildcats to victory with 30 assists along with four digs on the night.
GAME NOTES
- Daemen opened the match on an 11-5 run off seven kills and continued their domination through the first set, taking the set 25-17 after hitting a match-high .389 with 10 kills on 18 attacks.
- The Yellowjackets and Wildcats traded points to 4-4 early and kept it close, tying it up at seven a few points later. Both teams went on scoring runs throughout the set, and after AIC made it a one-point game late, 20-19, the Wildcats scored five of the last seven to take the second set 25-21.
- In another close set, AIC opened up on a 6-3 run but the Wildcats fired off a 10-2 run of their own to take a 13-8 advantage. The Yellowjackets made it a one-point game later, 15-14, and from there, the Wildcats would never lead by more than five for the rest of the game. Daemen took the back-and-forth third set, 25-21, to sweep the Yellowjackets for the second time this season.
