Men's Volleyball Drops Regular Season Finale At D'Youville

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team wrapped up the 2025 regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 0-3 (17-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23) loss at D'Youville University. The Wildcats enter next weekend's Northeast Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed with a 13-12 overall record after going 4-4 in conference play. D'Youville ends the season with a 6-16 overall record and 1-7 record in NEC action.

With a predominately underclassmen roster on display for the Wildcats today, three Daemen players hit in the double digits with Patrick Mullen (Farmingdale, N.J.), Jack Rooney (Lakeview, N.Y.) and Eddie Kwarciak (Grand Island, N.Y.) combining for 37 of Daemen's 44 kills on the day.
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Mullen, a redshirt freshman, totaled double-digit kills for the eighth match this season and finished with 15 kills, adding eight digs, three block assists, one solo block and one ace.
  • Rooney, a sophomore outside hitter, posted a career-high 12 kills on 29 attacks for a .241 hitting percentage and added seven digs and one ace.
  • Making his second career start, redshirt freshman outside hitter Kwarciak posted a career-high 10 kills along with five digs and two solo blocks.
  • Sophomore setter Bradyn Winters (Coraopolis, Pa.) totaled 41 assists, three block assists, two digs and one kill.
GAME NOTES
  • Daemen opened the first on a 7-3 run, but from there the Saints put together a run to jump out to a 12-10 advantage and took a lead that they would never relinquish. For the second straight match, D'Youville took the first set over the Wildcats, 25-17.
  • The second set was much like the first, with the Wildcats jumping out to a 10-6 lead early but D'Youville making a comeback again, scoring seven straight to lead 13-10. Daemen brought the game within two late, 21-19, but the Saints closed out the set winning the final three points to take the second, 25-20.
  • The Wildcats and Saints remained in a battle throughout the third set, but after Daemen took a 20-19 lead late, the Cats scored five of the final seven points to take the third set 25-21 to avoid the sweep.
  • D'Youville scored five straight early to take a 13-9 lead over the Cats that they would hold on to for the rest of the match. The Wildcats remained close to the end but the Saints would take the fourth set, 25-23, and win the match 3-1 to mark the first win over Daemen since the first ever meeting between the two teams in 2019 and snapping an 11-match win streak for the Wildcats.
