Wildcats Cruise Past Redhawks

AMHERST, N.Y. —  #16 Daemen (17-2, 10-0 ECC) defeated Roberts Wesleyan (4-11, 1-6 ECC), 86-49, at Lumsden Gymnasium.

The Wildcats' defense forced 33 turnovers, converting them into 30 points, while securing a 46-22 advantage in paint scoring. Roberts managed just three points in the second quarter, struggling against Daemen's relentless pressure.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Ne'vaeh Buntley (Rochester, N.Y.) scored 24 points and recorded six steals, leading the team's offensive and defensive efforts. 
  • Kyleigh Chapman (Canandaigua, N.Y.) was perfect from the field, scoring 10 points while adding two blocks and four steals. 
  • Sophie Auer (Lewiston, N.Y.) posted 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists. 
  • Brianna Caliri (Staten Island, N.Y.) added nine points and posted two blocks. 
  • Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) added 10 points and tallied four steals in her starting role.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Wildcats began the game strongly, establishing an early lead with a 6–0 run, highlighted by Buntley's layup at 8:22. Their defense set the tone, forcing nine turnovers and converting them into points, while Shyla Montgomery's (Brockton, Mass.) fast-break layup at 7:57 increased the advantage. The quarter concluded with Daemen maintaining control and finishing ahead 22–10.
  • In the second, the Wildcats surged ahead with a decisive 14-0 run early in the second quarter, highlighted by Auer's 3-pointer at 7:23. Pikett contributed with a fast-break layup at 4:40, extending the lead. Buntley further solidified their position with a layup and a 3-pointer, pushing Daemen's advantage. The Wildcats' defense stifled the Redhawks, allowing only one field goal and forcing 12 turnovers. The quarter concluded with Daemen leading 41-13.
  • The Wildcats forced 10 turnovers from RWU in the third, converting them into fast-break points to pull ahead even further. Pikett initiated a pivotal stretch with a layup at 9:11, followed by consecutive fast-break scores from Chapman and Montgomery, expanding Daemen's lead. Buntley and Auer also contributed significantly, with Buntley's three-pointer at 4:58 reinforcing their momentum. The Wildcats concluded the quarter ahead 68–33, maintaining control on both ends.
  • Daemen finished strong in the fourth, starting with a key 3-pointer by Auer at 8:49, assisted by Reece Beaver (Busti, N.Y.), which maintained their lead. Montgomery added a layup to extend their advantage, and Morgan White (New Carlisle, Ind.) converted two free throws to keep the momentum.
GAME NOTES
  • Buntley's six steals marked a career best. 
  • Julia Fontanillo (Valladolid, Spain) posted a team-leading four assists, logging her sixth game with four or more helpers. 
  • Montgomery registered seven defensive rebounds, setting a new season high.
  • Daemen held the Redhawks to 13 points in the first half, its fewest points allowed in a half this season.
  • The Wildcats logged 21 steals in the game, totaling at least 12 for the seventh consecutive contest. It is the team's fourth most in a game this season. 
  • This was the sixth time this season and the second straight game that Daemen held an opponent to under 50 points.
  • The Wildcats are now 8-1 at home and have won eight straight contests in Lumsden Gymnasium.
  • Daemen is now 58-25 all-time against the Redhawks and has won 11 straight meetings. The Wildcats defeated RWU by 20-plus points for the third consecutive time.

Daemen is back on the road next weekend, traveling to District of Columbia on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. contest, then heading to Staten Island for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
