Despite 14 steals and 17 second-chance points, the Wildcats were unable to secure the win. IMPACT PLAYERS Ne'vaeh Buntley (Rochester, N.Y.) scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds, showcasing her presence on both ends of the court. Joline Raposo (Tampa, Fla.) added 11 points and tallied three steals while grabbing five rebounds. Shyla Montgomery (Brockton, Mass.) posted 12 points and recorded four steals. Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) contributed 13 points, collected eight rebounds, and blocked three shots to anchor the defense. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Daemen opened the game with a strong defensive presence, forcing multiple turnovers early in the quarter. Buntley and Montgomery each contributed steals that kept pressure on the Mavericks. Despite these efforts, the Wildcats struggled with turnovers themselves, committing five in the quarter. Key scoring from Pikett, who led the team with a crucial layup at 1:30, kept the Wildcats competitive. However, late free throws from Mercy's Amani Abuhatab gave the visitors a slight edge, leading to a 10-8 finish in Mercy's favor at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats started the second quarter with a 16-2 run, including two pivotal steals and rapid scoring from Buntley, who contributed a layup and a 3-pointer. A key stretch saw them capitalize on defensive stops, generating fast-break opportunities and scoring 14 points in the paint. Despite Mercy's efforts to counter, Daemen maintained its momentum and closed the quarter ahead 30-24. In the third, the Wildcats maintained control, despite a strong challenge from Mercy. The home team capitalized on a key moment when Raposo's layup at 6:55 broke a tie, sparking a six-point run. Montgomery added a crucial jumper to extend the lead further. However, the Mavericks fought back to tie the game at 40 with a minute left. Buntley then delivered a pivotal jumper with 49 seconds remaining, securing a narrow 42-40 lead for Daemen to close the quarter. The Wildcats maintained a slender lead early in the fourth quarter, with Buntley's free throws at 9:49 putting them ahead 44-40. Montgomery then extended the advantage to 46-40 with a layup at 8:33. However, the Mavericks responded with a three-pointer from Kyla Nembach at 7:19, bringing the score to 46-43. As the quarter progressed, Pikett's contributions from the free-throw line and a layup at 4:18 helped Daemen stay competitive. Despite their efforts, including a late free throw from Kyleigh Chapman (Canandaigua, N.Y.) at 11 seconds, Mercy surged ahead in the final moments. Angelina Barrera's free throws sealed the outcome, and the game concluded with Mercy winning 58-54. GAME NOTES Sophie Auer's (Lewiston, N.Y.) eight rebounds marked a season high. Raposo grabbed a season-high total of five rebounds. The Wildcats logged 14 steals, marking the fourth consecutive game it has recorded 14 or more. Daemen forced 19 Maverick turnovers, scoring 20 points off of them. The Wildcats outscored Mercy 34-20 in points in the paint. With the loss, Daemen is now 23-4 all-time against Mercy.
