Wildcats Run Past Redhawks, Claim Share of ECC Regular Season Title

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — #15 Daemen (22-3, 15-1 ECC) defeated Roberts Wesleyan (4-18, 1-13 ECC), 87-53, at the Voller Athletic Center on Wednesday to wrap up the regular season.

With the victory, Daemen claimed at least a share of the ECC regular season championship. It marks the seventh straight year the programs has won the title.

The Wildcats capitalized on the Redhawks' 32 turnovers, converting them into 49 points. Impressively, the team achieved at least 14 steals in their seventh consecutive game. They also dominated inside, scoring 50 points.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Ne'vaeh Buntley (Rochester, N.Y.) scored 28 points, making 11 field goals. 
  • Kyleigh Chapman (Canandaigua, N.Y.) recorded eight assists and collected four rebounds. 
  • Shyla Montgomery added a season-high 17 points and tallied three steals. 
  • Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) blocked three shots and contributed seven points. 
  • Reece Beaver (Busti, N.Y.) added 10 points and three steals.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Wildcats opened the game with strong offensive execution, swiftly establishing a lead with a series of quick layups. Buntley led the charge, scoring twice within the first minute, aided by Chapman's assists. The visitors capitalized on turnovers, scoring 12 fast-break points and building an 18-point advantage in the paint. Montgomery added a crucial three-pointer at 1:35, further widening the gap. The first quarter concluded with the Wildcats leading 25–10.
  • The Wildcats surged with a 15–2 run early in the second quarter, highlighted by Pikett's layup at 8:21 and a fast-break layup by Chapman at 7:13. Beaver's defensive contributions, including a steal and an assist, fueled the momentum. Brianna Caliri (Staten Island, N.Y.) added a layup off a fast break at 2:07, further extending the lead. The Wildcats ended the quarter ahead 48–22.
  • In the third, Daemen maintained its momentum with a strong 21-point performance, highlighted by a series of effective plays in the paint. Buntley contributed significantly with multiple layups, including a fast-break layup at 4:56, assisted by Pikett. The Wildcats' defense was also notable, blocking three shots and accumulating four steals, which limited RWU's scoring opportunities. The quarter concluded with the Wildcats leading 69–41.
  • The Wildcats maintained control in the fourth quarter, opening with a Buntley layup just seconds in and extending their lead with consistent free-throw shooting. Beaver contributed significantly, sinking a 3-pointer at 7:11 and later converting a three-point play with a layup and free throw at 3:27. 
GAME NOTES
  • Montgomery scored a season-high total of 17 points.
  • Chapman recorded a season-high eight assists.
  • White achieved a season-high total of five rebounds.
  • Buntley's 28 points were six off her career-high of 34.
  • The Wildcats made 33 field goals, tying their season high for the sixth time.
  • Daemen logged 14 steals, marking the seventh consecutive game it has recorded 14 or more.
  • The Wildcats forced 32 Redhawk turnovers, scoring 49 points off of them.
  • Daemen outscored RWU 50-20 in points in the paint. 
  • The Wildcats are now 59-25 all-time against the Redhawks and have won the last 12 meetings.
