AMHERST, N.Y. - Junior guard Casey Sheehan (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) and junior guard Lindsay Stoddard (Limestone, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) were named Daemen College's Student-Athletes of the Month for December, 2012 today.
Sheehan, a 5'9" combo guard, led the Daemen men's basketball team to an 8-1 record in December. For the month, he averaged 20.8 points and 4.9 assists per game and shot 58-percent from the field (68-for-117).
He tied a career-high with 25 points in an 86-66 win at Salem International University on Dec. 7 and topped that with 27 points in a 97-95 loss to Newberry College on Dec. 8. On Dec. 20, Sheehan paced Daemen with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists in an 88-81 win over Grace College - the #9 ranked team in NAIA Division II. He capped the month by torching Redeemer University College in back-to-back wins (99-57 on Dec. 28; 112-72 on Dec. 29), including a new career-high of 35 points in the second matchup.
Also in December, Sheehan raised his season scoring average from 11.2 to a team-leading 16.0 points per game.
Stoddard, a 5'6" point guard, enjoyed a terrific month and led the Wildcats to a record of 5-2 in December. For the month, she averaged 13.1 points and 4.7 assists per game and shot 52-percent from the field (35-for-68).
She opened the month with a 24-point, 12-assist performance in Daemen's 99-50 dismantling of the University of Maine-Fort Kent on Dec. 2. She also scored 16 points in a one-point loss to Gerogetwon College on Dec. 16 and added 17 points in an 81-67 victory over Laurentian University on Dec. 22.
Also in December, Stoddard raised her season scoring average from 8.3 to 10.1 points per game.
