AMHERST, N.Y. - Sophomore men's track and field athlete Sam Rugg (Freeville, N.Y./Dryden) and freshman women's tennis player Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Naples) have named the Bedore Tours Student-Athletes of the Month for March 2013.

Rugg, a sprinter and jumper for coach Jessica Gorski's track and field squad, helped the Wildcats kick off their 2013 outdoor season by winning the long jump competition at the University of Rochester Spring Invitational on March 30.  Rugg's leap of 6.20 meters won the event by .07 meters over Brockport's Kurt Zeltwanger.

Rugg, who also made 12 starts this past fall for the Daemen men's soccer team, added a 10th place finish in the 200 meter dash to his impressive day in Rochester.

Iverson led coach Kelly Brown's squad to its first-ever victory as they defeated Cazenovia College 5-4 on March 23.

Iverson defeated Cazenovia's Kate Frangoli in the No. 1 singles slot (7-5, 6-1) and then teamed with Aman Shamaa (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) in No. 1 doubles to take out Frangoli and Brianna Davis (8-2), helping the Wildcats earn two important points in the historic victory.
