Steven Chasey, compliance specialist at Cleveland State University, has been appointed assistant athletics director for compliance at DaemenĀ College, director of athleticsĀ
Traci MurphyĀ announced today. Chasey, who has held compliance positions at three NCAA Division I institutions, will begin his Daemen tenure on Monday, October 1.
"We are excited to welcome StevenĀ Chasey to the DaemenĀ family," said Murphy. "We're fortunate to be able to bring someone of his caliber to our department. He brings experience and passion to the position and will be a great fit for our campus."
In his new position, ChaseyĀ will be specifically responsible for overseeing Daemen'sĀ compliance initiatives in accordance with NCAA Division II and East Coast Conference rules and regulations. This includes rules education for coaches and staff, NCAA bylaw interpretations, grant-in-aid and athletic scholarship offers, National Letters of Intent, athletic eligibility of student-athletes, and the day-to-day oversight of institutional control of the athletic department. In addition, he will supervise the compliance and student-athlete success office which includes two additional employees who provides essential services for student-athletes.

Chasey'sĀ ascent into the world of intercollegiate athletics began during the 2015-16 academic year when he served as a compliance assistant at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, N.Y., a member of the North East Conference. The following year, ChaseyĀ moved into the Ivy League as the compliance coordinator at Columbia University, and eventually settled this past year at Cleveland State, a member of the Horizon League. In all three positions, he worked directly with coaches, staff and student-athletes to maintain compliance with rules and regulations of NCAA Division I and each institution's respective conference.Ā
A native of Perry, N.Y., ChaseyĀ is a 2009 graduate of Bowling Green State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He went on to add a Juris Doctorate from the State University of New York at Albany Law School in 2012, and a Master's Degree in Sport Management from Columbia in 2016. Before pursuing a career in intercollegiate athletics, ChaseyĀ provided legal assistance for two different insurance agencies as a claims associate.
ChaseyĀ will fill the seat that was vacated by the departure of Brandi Guerinot, senior associate athletics director for internal operations. Guerinot, who also served as Daemen's interim athletics director from January 2018 until Murphy's hiring last month, was the college's primary compliance officer since her hiring in March 2016. She wasĀ
named the associate commissioner for compliance and governanceĀ for the America East Conference in mid-August.
